Or, it could be an instruction how to treat them in double FOC when over 2000 point games are played.

That does not make sense at all, what are you referring to?

that makes no sense... in two FOC slots, you dont ally the 2nd FOC to the 1st...

you have a main FOC slot, and an INQ slot.

when INQ is your main FOC, the INQ SLOT is a BB relationship to the INQ FOC slot.

I'm referring to the fact that double FOC games could see 6 detachments in one army.

Rulebook tells us how to handle two primary and allied detachments but it does not tell us how to handle two Inq detachments in one army.

Quote from C:I

"Note that the Inquisitorial detachment may have a different relationship to the models from an army’s primary detachment, and the models that make up that army’s ‘regular’ allied detachment (assuming there are any)."

So the picture of battle brothers -Inquisitors could be an instruction how to treat 2 Inq-detachments in relation to each other, not a permission to ally with themselves.

"an army may include an Inquisitorial detachment in addition to any other detachments."
This most likely means you can only have one inquisitorial detachment, regardless of the number of primary detachments you have. Its not like an allied detachment where you can add one on for each primary detachment you have.

If that statement allowed you to take more then one inquisitorial detachments it would be because each detachment in your army may, primary or allied, allows for one more inquisitorial detachments. Meaning in a game with 2 Primary detachments and 2 allied detachments you could have 4 inquisitorial detachments. This parsing of the statement is colloquially acceptable but grammatically incorrect and the example provided in the codex does not support this interpretation.

You are correct! Only one Inq-detachment even in double FOC games.

Point conceded.

I don't just use the free dictionary of my choice, I just so happened to post one of them. Look around, anywhere, nothing will tell you the use of alternative can be anything but inclusive.

Which means the use of Alternative is confusing to players, It shouldn't really be structured that way, as mentioned the allies matrix allows it.

FYI people who have it there was a update this morning, not on this, but they mentioned Coteaz's Psyber-eagle and other fix's

-[edit] additionally this looks like it will be updated at some point to clear confusion, I primary detachment can take I as allies.

To clarify if I take an Inquisitorial detachment I can have 2 Inquisitors?

Example Ig and marine armies can bring 2 inquisitors also.

yes. Do you have the inquisition codex? It has a special FOC that is always used by detachments from this codex and it explains it all.
