Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal. I've provided the fact of how many wounds it takes to statistically down 18 wraiths, and you tell me its not possible to put out that many wounds in one turn. Tau could do it quite easy, 2 full fire warrior squads with an ethereal and markerlight support/divination support (so lets imagine BS 5, its not like that never happens) causes 40 wounds (3 shots each, 72 shots, Hit on 2's, 60 hits, wound on 3's, 40 wounds) and kill 6 wraiths (13. something wounds). Boom! You just got MathHammer'd!

I'm missing something here. How are your Two units, shooting at 3 separate units in one turn and where are all these marker lights coming from that are giving your units 2+ BS? I'm not a Tau player but forgive me if I'm wrong but you need 6 total marker light hits to get your BS to 6 on all the 3 wraith units (2 marker hits/wraith unit). What are the odds your marker lights are making the initial hits to raise your skills? Statistically how many marker light shots do you need to get your required marker light counters? How many points are you spending on your Firewarriors, and the additional support units required for all this? Your mathhammer is running at a grade three level. You've got an incomplete math formula up on the board. Show your work. You can't make an assumption of significance and then say that proves your point.

I'm kind of curious about what your total actual points would be with your hypothetical list. I mean if the Wraiths are no good, then your point value required to get the wounds to wipe out the wraiths should be significantly less than the points for the wraiths your taking on

I was referring to disdamn's story of how his unit of wraiths survived two full fire warrior squads with all the trimmings and only lost a single wraith. When a unit is a priority target (and you don't get much higher then a full unit of 6 wraiths in your face) its quite safe to assume they will be marker lighted or prescience'd. I simply did the math of 2 full fire warrior squads with the trimmings would do against a Wraith Squad and concluded that they can, within reason, kill a whole wraith squad in a single turn of shooting. This is because Tau can pile on wounds very well, and this is the biggest weakness for wraiths, because they pay for a 3++ which is now no better then a normal 3+. Disdamn wasn't clear if it was a single unit,of 6, or 3 units of 6, so I worked with 1, it seemed more likely.

My Formula? What do you expect? I said how many shots, hitting on 2's means 1/6 miss. 1/6 of 72 is 12. So 60 hits. wounding on 3's is 2/3 wounds, 2/3 of 60 is 40. Wraiths have a 3+ save, so 1/3 get through. I am in year 9 high school, so if you where expecting a bar chart or something I'm sorry to disappoint. As for the pricing I don't believe it matters as much for the Tau, because the units I'm including are practically auto takes anyhow. A Large amount of Tau use Fire Warriors, a HUGE amount of Tau make use of Markerlights. Since he would have these units no matter who he faced, the points cost of them matters less. I am not saying Wraiths are bad, I'm saying they have a weakness in this meta where piling wounds on is simply not that hard, that's why having a 2+ in front tanking is important.

YMMV but my DLord can usually tank way less than 10 wounds before he is down to one, because I simply fail at making 2+ saves. Incidentally I never play terminators... Anyway, if you have a HQ slot available a DLord is badass with Wraiths. I've been running double Court so have been shelving my DLord for a while, but he truly is a great HQ.

Always take SW and MSS. Remember that a Warscythe is not unwieldy, so if your MSS fails you'll still hit before most things wielding AP2 weapons (outside of MCs).
