if i have to pay premium prices then i also expect premium quality.
that's the main problem with Finecast. It was (and still is) billed as the finest figure material to hit the market, and is priced accordingly. But then it has some of the lowest qualities in a gaming figure, like casting quality and high heat and pressure sensitivity.
Even Restic at Finecast prices would have been better for GW to go with. At least it's sturdy.

that's why I like the blisterpacks. you can look and see some of the more obvious flaws and know not to buy it to begind with so you don't have to return it later. I have a god enough rapport with the local store owner that I an hand him a blister and suggest he return it himself rather than go through the hassle of having a customer buy and then return it.

I bought a lord of change and Huron blackheart in fine cast, both were fine by me. It's very light and seems incredibly fragile, but it hasn't broken on me yet.

I liked it until I got my Valkia model.
On most of my Finecast models the minis went together easily and smoothly.
My Valkia model did not go together easily. The pieces did not want to stay together when I tried to assemble her like I had my Painboy, Big Mek, and Ghazghkull. I suspect - but have no actual evidence - that Valkia was designed with the low weight of Finecast in mind, whereas the others were originally sculpted for metal. As a result, the Valkia mini seems to have tiny, tiny joins between parts, too small for the glue to get a good, solid grip. I think the join in her wrist is just a few millimeters in diameter at the largest. The Ork models had broader joins with much more surface area.
Fortunately, I discovered that liquid green stuff, when applied to both surfaces of a join with a small amount of superglue in-between, makes for a much quicker bonding. I more recently discovered while customizing a thunder hammer that it also joins small plastic pieces more quickly than plastic glue does. (I tried joining a severed thunder hammer to a power axe's haft with plastic glue, and it just fell off due to weight after a few moments. Tried the same thing with a thin coat of liquid green stuff and a small amount of superglue, and it went on and stayed on.)
As for miscasts, the worst I got was some tiny holes (tiny enough they'd be unnoticeable at gaming distance) in two of the Orks' knuckles.
I have also had a miscast metal miniature - on one of my 6 Death-Cult Assassins, her sword didn't fill entirely, leaving me with a round nub.
All that said, I'd rather work with plastic than Finecast OR metal.

Now THAT is something I would purchase liquid green stuf for pouncy. Good call on that.
Gotta agree with plastic. Much rather work with that. I was sooo afraid trimming my coatez and yarrick that I would cut too deep in trimming as the razor blade shaved into the resdin so easily with no resistance at all.. With plastic I'm used to the "feel".

I think their core mistake was to replace all their metal lines with fine-cast versions. They should have added 'resin' (not necessarily Finecast) to their repertoire, and used it where it was most appropriate, keeping metal for the models it was most appropriate for. Plastic for the most common stuff. Metal for the small / delicate, but uncommon stuff, and the resin for larger, or more robust uncommon models. Play to the strengths of each material.

I enjoy finecast, I don't see why people have such a big problem with it.
It may take a few more cuts/grinds to get bubbles out but overall I really enjoy the extreme detail. It's not always the case either that you'll get said bubbles.
I think overall the resin is more of a boon than a downside, it's just the price.
Although I don't mind splurging on a general for my army, getting multiple really gets out of hand.
Buying a single GK /w a psycannon for 20 bucks is INSANE.

Metal is appropriate for nothing IMHO. Not that finecast was perfect by any means but if I had to chose between finecast and metal it would be finecast every time. The only time I'd be tempted to metal is single piece models and even then I doubt I'd go for it.
Some people really are overly nostalgic about metal models. Maybe forgetting how easily they fell over and chipped and broke, or how frustratingly often gluing them together could be nigh impossible due to heavy sections with little contact space (Shock attack gun, Trebuchet, old steam tank anyone?) Or how when metal models were bad...it was just plain unfixable. I'm not talking about tiny gaps of not quite fitting together, I'm talking about how I'd often need to use half a back of greenstuff just to make a model appear flush.
Nope, I'll take finecast even with it's flaws, at least I can customize it easily, return it if it's really bad and brush relentlessly with the cleaning brush in case of excessive flash.

Multi-part plastic for everything please! I say this because I happen to have some old Raptors and they aren't very pretty... I also own an Abby and I kinda hate how static he is. Lack of customization is a downer for me.
ALso, I was wondering... what are Forge World minis like? I've heard they are a bit brittle but I've never so much as held one so I wouldn't know. Anyone?
