I can't really wrap my head around why the "Greta Martian War" would evolve into trench warfare. Those Spiders seem perfectly capable of bypassing the trench front with ease therefore, making them pointless.

I also don't understand what good guys with rifles are going to do aginst Spiders, wouldn't Artillery be the main fighting force?

Wouldn't the war be much more fluid and artillery focused?

In reality you are correct. Trenches would be a pointless response to such machines. Like you say most of the fighting would probably be done with spotters and artillery. Smalls arms fire would be useless and so the role of Infantry in such a war would be much smaller.

However this is a TV show and the reason they have done this is because most people immediately associate war in that era with trenches and machine gun nests.

Behind you

Himmler - If I had to storm hell, I would sent Australians to assail it, and then garrison it with New Zealanders.

Don't forget, we tied up the turkish garrison in gallipoli, holding up a force of 20,000 axis troops for a year, and then in world war 2, pretty much stopped the japanese ground forces from taking PNG WITHOUT AIR SUPPORT.

(also, Australia was the only allied home country to be invaded by Japan).

Axis? I know you Australians are from the future but do your time bending powers really extend that far?
