Hey all,

So after some five years of collecting and painting this army, I have decided to call it complete, and stop acquiring any more Orksies. Though I dearly love the army, and think that it looks pretty good on the tabletop, I just can't face painting any more Orks. Part of my thinking comes from the way that I'd have to expand my force: to make a real difference to how the army played, I'd be looking at buying three battle wagons, or something else significantly huge, and at this point the interest in painting Orks has just collapsed. It was a huge struggle to finish off my Lootas and Mek Guns, and I can't see myself successfully painting any more Boyz. Well, nothing lasts forever, and perhaps by taking a major break from painting these guys then I'll be able to return in a year or two with a fresh enthusiasm for edge highlighting and green paint. I decided to celebrate by lining up all of my painted models, to see how they looked together; roughly 3600pts of idiots ready for war, complete with a centrepiece Stompa. Plenty enough to play games with, and I think a respectable point at which to call it quits.

Without further ado, I present to you the Shattered Suns Warband, complete and unique!

Thanks for all the reads, and I hope that you all have success in your future endeavours. I may see you in a future painting thread, who knows; the question of which 40k army to paint, if any, is a difficult one. Adios!

I'm impressed with the scale of your army. You certainly painted a lot of Orks. I'm sorry to hear you are finished, but you have to feel the passion or there is no point to the hobby.

You have an interesting approach to metals. I find that a simple way to do Ork metal is a layer of Boltgun/Leadbelcher (either dry brushed over black or just painted on solid over a black undercoat) and then adding some rust one of two ways: dry brush Ryza Rust and then wash with Agrax Earthshade -or- mix brown and rust and water it down and apply like a heavy wash to give the whole thing a grimy look. It helps break up the metal areas, tones down the shine, and makes them look a bit more Orky. Not the best approach I've seen, but quick and effective.

I like the colir-coordinated trukker units. You are right that they mesh surprisingly well on the table since the main colors are actually the metals and they are all painted the same way. Nice idea and well done.

Again, very impressive army overall. Someday, I hope to have as many painted Orks as you!
