I am thinking of fielding 2 5 man devastator squads with 4 Lascannons each. Put them in cover and at the v ery least they will draw a ton of fire or punch large holes in important stuff. Will let you know how it goes.

"A ton of fire" probably won't be needed due to markerlights causing tau to ignore cover. If you have the points then a prescience libby with pfg works wonders with dev squads.

OP, I personally would hesitate against the 5 man Las teams. Tau are simply better with static gun teams then Marines and you will get out-gunned.

If I faced 8 Las from 10 Marines, I would consider them a priority target. A few simple pie plates from either an Ionhead or Riptide will work them over easily. Also, the Ionhead and Riptide are both mobile and can fire, whereas the Devastator teams are static.

I would concentrate on some strengths of DA. Speed and in your face close combat fun. Bikes, drop pods, anything to get up close and in a hurry with Tau.

Not much advice from me, but the Las team is a gamble. They can do wonders; their offensive punch is great, but they can draw a lot of attention (shooting).

Thats why you A) take minimum two extra ablative Devastator Marines and B) Spread them out so they don't get annihilated by one blast.

You can also take a Thunderfire to make sure their cover is going to be reasonable at the very least.
