It might be worth mentioning that Andy Chambers - former head 40k dude as well as author of Battlefleet Gothic - once stated a general rule of thumb for BFG crew numbers was 2,000 per damage point for Imperial & Chaos, with Escorts (1 damage point) were nearer 500, with Marine vessels having far less due to automation.

What is a reasonable stock of thunderhawks per class of ship?
The battlebarge lists three squadrons. If you need to deploy support landraiders and rhino for three companies. I guess it would have a seperate fleets of thunderhawk dropships and gunships.
The EPIC: Armageddon rules give Strike Cruisers 6 Thunderhawk Gunships and 4-5 Landing Craft* whilst Battle Barges have 9 Thunderhawk Gunships and 10-15 Landing Craft.

Rare is a vessel in 40K not described as "dank, dark and claustrophobic, filled with twisting halls of iron plating and hissing tubes".
The starship Enterprise they are not.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

I don't recall where I read it but I remember some campaign rules somewhere I think that said crew loss results for Eldar vessels had to be increased because of the smaller number on board. Not sure where though which is unusual for me. Very long ago, wherever it was.

What is best in life?
To wound enemy units, see them driven from the table, and hear the lamentations of their player. |

The scale of all imperial 40k ships varies hugely from author to author. My main thought relating to this was I remember first reading "Horus Rising" several years ago, it was described that Horus' Flagship, the "Vengeful Spirit" was probably one of the largest ships in the imperial fleet being described at just about 7km long, which is HUGE. By the time we get to "Know no Fear" several years later, imperial heavy cruisers were being described in excess of 10km long which makes the flagships in excess of 15km long, that i feel is pushing the "bigger is better" scale just a bit.

And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.

Only 15km? Nah, way too small, we could also have 150km ships!
