The best? I'd say Amon.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

What's the beast caster for heavy jacks in menoth?

Amon can be a decent jack caster, but he's finnickity and hard to use well for newer players because he dies far too easily. Harby can run quite a few Jacks with her focus, but she's also a great infantry caster as well. Her theme force gives a point off all heavy jacks, which means she can make a very good heavy jack wall of crusaders, Templars, Sanctifiers and the Avatar.

eFeora is also very good for heavy jacks, and I have seen lists with a number of heavy jacks (saw a list with 5 vanquishers do alright once).

Outside of them, all our casters can take 2-3 heavies pretty comfortably, because our support makes them good enough to take generally. Menoth is the best of the warmachine factions for taking jacks generally (outside of Convergence of Cyriss, of course).

Running jacks is what we do as a faction, and its not really because of what our Casters do. It has more to do with Choir and Vassals.

Anyway, the top Jack casters for our faction would be Harbinger(because of 10 Focus), eFeora(because of Escort and her Feat), pReznik(Iron Aggression and Ignite), Kreoss3(Warpath and Ignite), pSeverius(Eye of Menoth, 8 Focus, Defenders Ward), and pKreoss(feat synergizes well with a shooty jack list, plus Defenders Ward and 7 Focus)

If I was OP I would look to Amon+ 2x Judiciors+ 2 choirs. It would be mega cool.

For a newbie Amon is terrible advice.

He's a difficult caster to get to work right, and that is in a faction that is more difficult than most for newbies to start in.

$500 is a really good deal for that amount of stuff, makes me a little nervous. Selling a huge lot can be very hard though, so it could well be legit. Be sure to look over the models first, if you go for it.

Amon is a really hard caster to use, especially in competitive games. At least I've never clicked with him after trying to make him work.

Menoth doesn't have beasts.

Be sure the seller makes you aware of any broken, missing, or damaged parts. It can be difficult to know what you are getting into if you are new to a game. Maybe some guys have missing swords, maybe a metal jack had it's flail broken and glued back together, maybe the banners on a model are broken.

I bought many of my models used and I attribute much of my happy trades to getting full disclosure on what I was buying and holding the seller to their word.

Here is what the army looks like. So what do you guys think. My biggest concern is that since we dont know the game at all, what if we dont like the game play of the armies style? Or do you guys think I will get over it since the deal is so great LOL...

Holy crap!

Get it, get it now!

Either you will get over not liking the playstyle OR you can sell it in smaller lots for a tidy profit.

No! Don't buy it! Send me the guy's contact info so I can!

Seriously though, that is a damn good deal. Even if you don't like it, there's plenty of profit and trade material there to get anything you want with a little bit of patience.

Honestly I would offer him the $500 asking price. I know when I put something up at a significant markdown, it only serves to annoy me when people want it marked down even more.

How about the army play style. OK for a beginner?

Sure. It is more complicated than other factions but so much as to cause a problem.

Its all about getting your buffs up before you dish out the damage.

Yeah, Menoth isn't too terribly unfriendly to new players. Just start with small games and slowly (SLOWLY) build up so you can see interactions and why certain things work the way they do.

Goddamn, get it. Get it NOW.

Even if you ended up hating the game, you could sell it off to nearly any player *for a profit*.

Menoth is actually quite a decent starter army, the only complex part is getting the choir/vassal working, and that's actually really easy to learn (Activate choir first!). It also is generally pretty sturdy all around, with no glaring deficiencies and lots of spell protection which makes it easier to not be blind sided by certain enemy casters.
