Even without paying points for upgrades, TAC marines are able to do stuff at range, bare minimum. Bolters still kill guys, which is more than the Tervigon can pull off. You can still stuff them in a pod to drop in on an objective across the board. With a single fist, they will beat down that Tervigon in close combat (most Nid MCs in fact). It can do all of these things for less than a naked Tervigon costs. TAC Marines might be bland, but they are far from useless.

Yeah, that's true. Tac marines are putrid, but GW can always print something worse.

What´s your point with tactical Marines? They are way better than, say, Chaos Space Marines, let alone Sisters and..., well, nearly everything out there except perhaps Tau and Eldar. They have tons of options, can be used in many ways, are stupidly cheap, have the amazing ATSKNF rule (and many other amazing rules too) and just received a major buff in the last Codex through Chapter Tactics, giving them a lot of highly customizable amazing special rules absolutely for free. What else do you want for 14 points? A Genestealer is 14 points too.

On the Tervigon, I am still using it. Far too expensive, but still a good Troop. It is really underwhelming when it goes dry quickly, and it is a big target that damages your army if it dies. The way it generates new troops is far worse now too (no charge, no move).

It is quite worse than before, but still usable... I think. The important thing is to keep the Termagants as far from it as possible. It no longer gives big buffs (only counter-attack), and it is devastating when it dies.

It depends on how lucky you are with the spawn rolls. I don´t think is viable to get many of them to compensate this.

Still testing.

" What else do you want for 14 points?"

A unit that actually does something. There are other threads for this, though. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/571059.page Please come over, I'll be happy to explain to you how bad tac marines really are.

I find it ridiculous that you have to keep the Tervigon away from actual termagants.

This bugs me too.

But Mama Tervigon no longer helps her children, and they suffer a lot is she is around and dies. So they must be kept at a distance.

Chaos has Cultists

One of the few usable units in the Codex. It is good because it is cheap and can capture strategic points. Nothing else. It is unable to do any other thing.

And point by point, tactical space marines are far, far, far, far better than many other troops, including Chaos Space Marines, Genestealers and Sisters of Battle, who are nearly close in points and fluff-wise. And they have tons of options. And they are customizable to incredible levels. And.... well, I find it funny that one of the best units in one of the best Codexes is described as "putrid". Seriously? What are Battle Sisters then? Genestealers?

I am going there, no need to derail this thread any longer.

I really want to know how people see the Tervigon

I see taking at least one Tervigon as necessary for the Synapse and being the only durable scoring unit in the codex.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Battlesisters are cheaper, and can potentially have PF (anything) for a turn.

Genestealers aren't actually taken at all you know, they are only being taken now for their ignoring synapse. When 6th edition hit and the reserve assaults nerfed the genestealers were packed up on a shelf.

With Chapter Tactics and Combat Squading, Tactical Marines have a lot of utility I find. Yeah they die too easily, but that's mostly because there's too much AP3 out there these days. I almost think that all Marines could do with Relentless as a base special rule since that would put them about on part with Eldar and their pseudo-rending or Tau and their special overwatch. Of course, other Codices would need
