It looks like a collection of the most obvious stereotypes one makes about conservative people vs liberal people.

Might as well have just outright asked if you own guns or hate fetuses.

I found it amusing that the only conservative response for the browser question was IE, and that when you select any other specific browser the summary reads "You use a modern browser."

The obvious implication being that conservatives don't know how to use the internet.

Well, Conservatives == Old people == Not good with technology.

That's what the TV keeps telling me.

Madness!

In all seriousness, I feel like intentions wise, it's been around too long and it's too big to really be Fusion, but, for the simple description of two styles of food meshed together it is. Also, it was an excuse to talk about Tex-mex

Basic test using the same failed statistics logic that everybody on the internet uses.

You start out with research that shows that A = B (liberals are more likely to like cats than dogs) and then you just assume that therefore B = A (if you like cats more you are a liberal).

It's like every OT argument summed up in a simple test...

I was waiting for that.

It's interesting that as much as people here are complaining about the test, the results given on Time show a pretty strong correlation to people's actual political stances. And the results here on Dakka seem pretty solid as well.

Anyhow, my results...

You're 43% conservative, 57% liberal.

Liberal qualities
You prefer documentaries over action movies
You have a messy desk
You think the government should treat the lives of its citizens as equal to those of other countries
You think it's okay for your partner to look at porn alone
You prefer the Met to Times Square

Conservative qualities
You like dogs more than cats
You think kids should respect authority
You think self-control trumps self-expression
You're not wild about fusion cuisine
You use Internet Explorer
You think the world benefits from nations and borders
You're proud of your country's history

Why bother having a varying degrees of agree/disagree when all they do is boil your answers down to agree or disagree.

While in the summary it just lists the answer on the liberal or conservative side, but a stronger answer gives a stronger liberal or conservative impact to your score.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Took the test (75% liberal), seems extremely stupid though really as so many of the questions are context dependant.

I mean take the "self expession is more important that self control" thing. Sometimes it's very necessary to express yourself, and sometimes it's very necessary to control yourself. Knowing the appropriate action for the context is wisdom. I also would hope that my government wasn't flippant about the lives of people over seas and tried not to cause unnecessary harm to them in it's actions any more than it would for it's own citizens, and yet I know that if any government was organizing, say, an evacuation of a disaster zone (as an example) that they would be right in trying to save their own citizens first, and that it is the job of the government to help those citizens of it's own country first (but should not forget others where possible).

I am proud of my countries history, but also understand that there were some very vivid policies and periods where we did despicable things - but I'm proud because we've spent a century of slow improving how we treat people, even if we're far from perfect yet (and backslide on occasion).

The fact that you only have "agree" or "disagree" as options leaves a crapton of nuance to be interpreted by the person making the test. Makes it pretty useless in my mind.

Looking for a club in Brisbane, Australia? Come and enjoy a game and a beer at Pubhammer, our friendly club in a pub at the Junction pub in Annerley (opposite Ace Comics), Sunday nights from 6:30. I dislike how the assumption is that if I slightly disagree that I prefer cats to dogs, it assumes that I like cats more than dogs, when in reality I love both animals equally...

I'm afraid hate and love are the only options in American politics, and you aren't allowed to like both.
