There is a niche tactically - a race in which even the basic troopers are multiwound - like the old fantasy beastmen.
There is a niche fluff wise - a reptilian race.
Make them lizardman like. But slow multiwound modles with natural tough armour saves which can be upgraded for every unit. 5+ base, pay extra points for 4+ and 3+ (what units outside of inquisition acolytes get this option?)
Slow like the crons, big mc lizzards like the nids, fierce in assault like BA, stubborn to offset a low Initiative, poor shots like orks, but high number of shots like eldar, lack of psykers like tau.
Similar to and yet unlike any race.

Nah, I'd rather they focus on what they've got now. Get everything updated and all (or at least most) of the models updated.
Also, GW technically did add a new army recently: the Inquisition. So that's another Imperial faction added. Though they are intended as an allies codex.

Not the Sisters of Battle. They were a part of the Witch Hunters codex. In 5th the Sisters got their own codex again and the Witch Hunters were rolled into the GK.

The Inquisition is in no way new, it was more a reintroduction if anything, and that's being charitable as it pretty much cut/pasted straight out of GKs anyway.

They are new in that they operate as a seperate army to the GK, having their own ally rules and codex. Yeah it's not radically different to what we get in the GK codex, but they're still their own army.

Actually Sisters came out in 2nd edition under their own codex. Right at the end.

I know. But they way I read it, It seemed OP was saying that these two codexes existed alongside each other at the same time.

Again, as Codexes: Witch and Daemon Hunters have already existed, a reintroduction of an old idea is a better for than calling them 'new.'

The Inquisition previously having armies is irrelevant to my point. They were rolled into the GK. But then, in addition to all of the other 40K codexes, we got an Inquisition codex too, increasing the number of avaliable armies.

Ah. Nevermind then. Sometimes my filter gets stuck on all the young pups that think that everything in 40K came out less than ten years ago.

I like it, any idea what they would be though? maybe "Iron men" remnants? Old one descendants? or maybe a new race entirely, something like the Krogan from mass effect could work.

I would be pissed if they released a new xenos race before updating the Orks who are still using a 4th edition codex. At least get all the armies updated to 6th edition before thinking about adding a new one.

right now GW struggles to just update all current codexes and armies before an edition ends. a new race is a bit premature. that said they seem to be moving pretty fast so I suppose once they have that done a new race is a possiability. that said if I was a betting man I'd bet on the Mechanius being a new race more then anything else. Cyborg heavy with a focus on walkers might fill a differnt niche.

When i first got into 40k a few years ago i wanted a new race. At the time i was playing dark eldar and didn't like the fluff, though they play pretty well. I made a switch to nids and haven't looked back, the models look fantastic to me and having access to so many large creatures is my favorite part on the table top.
Since then i don't want a new race. I think its finding a faction that intrigues you. They can introduce all the new races they want, but that doesn't mean it will catch your attention.

To be honest, i would like a new bit of diversity, as at the moment I'm fed up with the multiple space marine legions making themselves as armies.
Im completely fine with sculpting and modelling new Orks with different parts, and making guardsmen look gory so they can look impaled on my warboss's spike

- Dees ones are best with some BBQ sauce. Pansy Elves.
-Deese ones taste best in stews…Mmmmm, Spehss mareen stew. Keep da armour for da crunch.
-Deese ones taste best raw, Teef n' all…Good for makin intestine soup too.
-Deese ones taste really best with da seafood…Watch out though, dry might grow in ya belly.
-Deese taste da best scorched, get da flamers on boyz!. Dont matta if dey alive.
- Deese aint for eatin, dey for makin new choppas.
-Deese mouldy, don't eat deese ones. Dey mess ya Fungi.
-Other Orkz always taste da best with ze squig sauce. Chop em first. |

I honestly got into this thread thinking of what would be fun to play against not as, adding something new to fight might no be a bad thing.

I dunno, FW are doing a Mechancus army right now, so GW would probably leave them to it. Especially since FW and GW are meant to be coming closer together anyway.
If there had to be a new race, the Hrud could be a viable candidate. They seem pretty interesting. Though they'd need a fair bit of fleshing out.

I always wonder why everyone thinks this, instead of them just being a swarm of locusts (in spaaaaaace), migrating to the next food source.
I actually think, like many others, that GW could actually condense some of their factions into a lower number of larger books, though then you hit the obvious price gouge. Like back in second edition where Blood Angels and Dark Angels were in one book "Angels of Death".

Oh, I have a far fetched idea!
Codex: Xenos Bestiary.
It would be like Codex: Inquisition, except with xenos.
You'd have Hrud, Slaan, freaky robed worm people, Sarduin (or freaky RT era shark people), tallarian dog people, etc.
No idea how it would turn out, but it should be...interesting.
