It might work for an X3 career path if you're clever enough, but it's still more efficient to just set up a mining base than to mine manually

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

At least in X3 you have to aim at the rocks! In EVE you just ctrl-click them, press F1 and then go AFK. It's really terrible. It'd be a big improvement if you could make a mining base.

Well, if you want to actually get max yield it's a little more in-depth than that (emphasis on a little). Got to line up the proper crystals for your mining lasers, target a separate rock for each one, and use your mineral scanner to make sure you don't mine a rock with less than one full cycle's worth of ore in it (thereby wasting time and durability on your crystals).

I tried max yield mining once...never again! The benefit was pretty much negligible to how much more mental ability it employed. It's almost as stressful as fleet fights if you're going 100% yield.

By the way, if you're getting mining efficiency boosts from a friend (using a ship whose entire purpose is pretty much to make other ships better at mining and act as a mobile ore buffer...you know he's having a good time) you are doing all this with a yield output that will fill your cargo hold in ~2.5 laser cycles (out of 3 on your ship) so you need to stagger them and be darn sure you have a place to dump that ore before it over-fills your hold and you waste a cycle. Although to be fair I haven't actually mined since they re-did all the mining ships, so this could have changed.

Yeah, I was in a mining corp for ~75% of my eve time. Those mining ops were interesting...especially the "downtime to downtime" one we'd schedule every new years where we tried to clean an entire system of its belts. I'm kinda ashamed to say I have mined for 23 hours straight before.

Squatting with the squigs

I really have to stop reading these threads. I keep thinking maybe i should play eve. I mostly played as a solo and the paranoia that went with that made the game quite tense.
I did things like missions , short term trading getting ganked and running away. It was quite fun, but since i never really got in a corp the game didn't open up for me. Mining is boring did it for one ship load then moved on to missions/salvaging.

Special note for people wanting to play, If some random says meet me here, don't , they want to kill you. If someone says lets have a pod race ,don't, their friend want to pod you. I quite liked the paranoid state of the game after i realised how nasty it was compared to other MMos. That said it's way to in depth for me to ever be good at.
