yep, that'll fix the game - there will just be 2 gunlines that don't move and shoot each other to death throwing dice. Why don't you just play a roulette?

You do realize that there's a lot more to shooting than just static gunlines, right? A shooting-only game isn't necessarily boring just because it doesn't have screaming idiots with swords in it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Screaming idiots with swords make everything funnier. Imagine even one situation where a screaming idiot with sword won't be entertaining.

40k wouldn't be what it is without screaming idiots.
the game, the background, and the future of the game needs screaming idiots with swords.

the only real way to fix the issue (and it is an issue or it wouldn't
be brought up so often) is to remove the unnecessary random factors. as already said, the dice deciding the outcome of combat is random enough.

if shooting required a random roll to see if the gun jams before being allowed to shoot, but still suffered the penalties for shooting even if you weren't allowed to because of a jam, then players that gravitated toward heavier shooting types of armies would feel the same frustration with the random mechanic.

zachwho: That's a bit how dark heresy does it. All shooting is done on d% and on a 96+ the gun automatically jams/misfires. Some guns are unreliable meaning they do it more often (plasma guns), and some are reliable meaning they do it less often (lasguns).

Yes, indeed. What a terrible piece of cultural imperialism it is for me to say that a country shouldn't murder its own citizens
