I love my Daemons so far. I've been building them up since adding an allied detachment to my CSM and have been playing with a CD primary detachment for the past couple of months.

I've got a mix of Nurgle and Tzeetch units, and will likely pepper in a few randoms as I go. I love painting them, which is a great departure from painting power armor. The GW daemon models are great candidates for airbrushing. Hoping at some point to have an allied detachment of traitor guard to fill in my collection and use up some of those extra CSM and CD bits I have.

Playwise, I have a lot of fun with all of the psykers on the board and rolling for gifts, as much as I know some people hate the "lolrandom" tables. Sometimes I get something useful, otherwise I take an awesome weapon. I love trundling my way down field with my GUO, slinging buffs/debuffs as he scares off anything within charge distance. The troops are a treat to play with, as they all seem to fill certain roles, and each of the unit types seems to have something worthwhile.

Unfortunately, I haven't played against anyone fielding daemons yet so i can't opine on that part of the question. My opponents haven't complained yet about facing my daemons, but that may change as my options expand.

There is such variety between units that this codex is easily one of the most fun and versatile of the 6th ed dex so far. They can be very competitive too. With regards to all the comments about the randomness being an annoyance- well, I understand why people say it, but there are ways of minimising the randomness to the point where it virtually doesn't exist and protecting yourself from it if you put some thought in to the army build. I think they are the most fun dex I've played in 6th actually. They make for great narrative games but also can crush any other army if thats your desire.

Would a Khorne and Slaanesh themed Daemon army be good?

You can be successful with any Theme of Daemons because each God has some good units. You could run Flesh hounds, Seekers, and Fiends in a Khorne and Slaanesh Army and be fairly successful.

Essentially the Most unfun thing about Daemons is the Warpstorm....it is pretty much never fun it almost always either wastes time or screws someone.

Some Tomb World in some galaxy by that one thing in that one place (or Minnesota for nosy people)

If you want a well rounded just for funsies list, then any god combo will work, if you want a competitive slaanesh/khorne combo army then prepare to spend a ton of money on hounds and chariots
