I like the name, and the tweaks you have made to the story to incorporate it. You mentioned you could be using the chaos codex, if they still have Spawns that could afford you some cool rules in game where one or 2 of your marines ascend to madness.

don't worry, spawns aren't gone. I just have to figure out how to get them in...
perhaps if it didn't appear until long after the inquisition stopped caring.

Your revised background works a lot better. The "Hounds of Loken" is a great name, too.

I'm not sure the Inquisition would *ever* stop caring about a Chapter descended from a Traitor Legion. If they know you came from Chaos, they are going to move into your Fortress Monastery and live on your couch. Forever. But there *may* be a way to keep the Chaos Spawn in...

What if the mutations were caused by a geneseed flaw and NOT by Chaos influence? What if the Inquisition finds out about the mutations, but determines that they have no trace of warp-taint? The Inquisition decides that, since the mutation isn't warp-related, and since the Hounds are so fanatically devoted to fighting Chaos, that keeping them on as a fighting force would be in the Imperium's best interest... for now. Also, you would want the flaw to show up after several millenia of service, that way the Hounds can say "We've been kicking @$$ in the Emperor's name for four thousand years, surely that counts for something." If they only have a century of loyal service, the Big I will exterminatus them so hard without a moment's hesitation. Ultimately, this would mean that the Inquisition would have to keep a MUCH closer eye on your army (reflected in the fluff, only... you don't actually have to put an Inquisitor model on the board every time you play) and would utilize them as shock troops in suicidal meat grinder assaults. They would receive minimal support from most Imperial institutions (Admech, AdTerra, etc) because the Inquisition would not want them to be too well-equipped (should the mutations run out of control, or should their loyalty slip and they end up needing to be put down) which would lead to having older equipment (the Hounds would be very good at repairing their own gear) and lots of Scouts (always need replacements due to high levels of attrition... after all, you only have 142 mutants in a 10,000 year period, so it is safe to assume that the overwhelming majority of Hounds die long before they get old enough to mutate). Also, you can work the philosophical divisions in the Inquisition into your army. A Radical Inquisitor would have no problem using the "cursed" marines in your Chapter as cannon fodder in a large battle, whereas a Puritan one would balk at the idea of letting filthy mutants die in the Emperor's name. So, when your list has Chaos Spawn in it, you can tell your opponent, "Yeah, this year they gave us a Radical Inquisitor to watch us, and he just loves watching freaky mutants bite the heads off of Traitors, so I hope you like Chaos Spawn." And when it doesn't contain Chaos Spawn you can say, "Now we have a hard-core Puritan as our overseer. He has no sense of humor and a Thunder Hammer up his rear, so no Chaos Spawn today. And we really hope he never goes into the Fortress Monastery's basement..."

Lol! Thanks for this post, I didn't realise millenium was 1000 for some reason, thought it was 100. Oops. Once I figure out what to do for them, Il make a all spawn +lord/captain, + minimal troops to represent a "clearing" of the stasis pods.

I'm unsure as to whether that would work...
Most members of the Inquisition are far more willing to cleanse and burn than they are to trust people they think might be mutants.
In the 41st Millennium there is no benefit of the doubt.

I believe Loken was the only survivor of the purge so having a bunch of others surviving goes against the lore. Hounds of Loken is an awesome name (Nice work) or you could call them Loken Wolves or Wolves of Loken to tie in the wolf imagery. If you want to go back to you original idea of the 21st founding you could state that they are descended from Loken's gene seed (Witch is Horous). His gene seed could of been extracted when he died (I think he is dead I am not sure) and used to create your chapter and to honour Loken and the 10th company who during the purge reverted to the Luna Wolves they use the Luna Wolves 10th company symbol as there banner and use the original colour scheme of the Luna Wolves. This might be enough for the Inquisition to keep an eye on your chapter but at the same time keep enough distance so they could hide there secret.. But all and all it is really nice and in the end all that matters is that you are happy with it.

Keep up the good work it is fleshing out nicely

True, overall the Inquisition is not very tolerant, but if the individual Inquisitor who discovered the mutation was a Radical, he might "massage" the facts in his report. Or, if he were of sufficiently high office, he might be able to make a ruling that the mutations were the Emperor's punishment and reminder of their forefather's betrayal, and that sending the mutants into suicidal battles was some kind of penance. That's how Imperial Beastmen used to work, after all...

Yeah, it's extremely unlikely, but it's at least a little bit plausible. You may have to bend yourself into a fluff pretzel to justify it, but it's still a lot better than the initial rough draft in the original post.

Ideally though, if it were me I would go with: 21st Founding, Horus geneseed, named for the "last loyal Luna Wolf", and although the Inquisition *was* aware of their origins, their records got lost in the Age of Apostasy, so nobody remembers that they are descended from a Traitor Legion (apart from the Hounds themselves... and they aren't about to volunteer that info). That nicely takes the Inquisition out of the picture, so there's no reason for them to spot the mutation.

But the OP wanted actual surviving loyalist Luna Wolves, and that leaves a lot less wiggle room.

In fairness I don't think there would be any actual mutations. I don't recall the Luna Wolves suffering from any mutations. They could be a 21st Founding that has no problems but eventually discovered their origins and hides it from the Imperium. The Inquisition, having seen what happened to many of the other 21st Founding chapters suspect something may happen to the Hounds and watch them constantly for signs of mutation or betrayal.
