Lordhat,

I'm away from my Wargames Illustrated collection at the moment. Was your bottom table recently featured in a WI battle report?

It looks great regardless.

I've recently got the 6'x4' realms of battle board, but over the coming year I'll be expanding it with a few of the Forge World tiles. I'd ideally like to be able to use a 6'x6' table.

I bought a 8*4 piece of plyboard, and had them cut it in half. This leaves a foot on each side to set up armies and still have a 6*4 board to play on. My friends and I built it keeping in mind that we could always do the same to another and then have a semi-modular set up......but I'm happy with what I have.

Approximately, 4x7. It's made of 4 folding closet doors, finished with a desert texture. It can be expanded to 6x7 with the addition of two more sections, in which case it looks like this.

I like the 4x7 for most things. Essentially it gives you a nice 4x6 with a bit of room on the side for books, dice, etc. I am really glad I made the additional sections though as some games just require more space and the answer isn't aways just a wider board. Sometimes you need depth.

I've also got a 3x5x3.5 urban board made from a highway department architectural model base.

Note that these boards rarely get used for GW games, though the see action with a variety of other games.

I've also got a 3x6 folding table that is good for small skirmishes, or for running a side game when more club members than usual show up.

It certainly was. :-)

Starting a 4x4 folding with a pink foam base for terrain. Snagged the idea from Poppa Bear over on the PP boards.

Mine is like 120x80 centimeters. I know it's too small, I made it without knowing much about the Warhammer 40k Gameplay and Rules.

I'll just use it for small battles maybe, or just to show/place my Army on it.

So I am wondering what size gaming table most of you play on. It seems to me GW tends to develop their games on 8 by 4 foot tables, and I think thats a little unrealistic to expect everyone to have that space available. While I have seen large tables at brick and mortars, they always get divided up into smaller sections when a lot of people show up. So this means these large armies people invest in tend to get all squished together.

I have a 4 by 4 foot gaming board I used for all my games regardless if its 40k, Epic, Man O War, Necromunda, or Trinity Battleground. I'm ok with that size as I don't play with Wraith Knights or multiple Land Raiders and never will, so I dont need a bigger space. I tend to play skirmish level battles. But for those that do, do you feel like you do have enough room to play games of maneuver or is everything just being piled on and moved forward in mass?

Depends solely on the game and how many points. I have a 4x8 table which we occasionally use at full size, but usually use at 4x6, with the extra 2 feet left for rolling dice, holding reserves and what not. If we are doing our necromunda leagues we split the table down the middle to have 2 games going at the same time. If play 500 points of Flames of War I'll use a 4x3 space for the game. Generally 4x6 tends to be more standard for GW games than 4x8 anymore as their realm of battle gameboard is 6 2x2 pieces. Of course you could use that to play a really narrow and long battle on a 2x12 surface.

My 1 1/2 size 'single guy' bed is about 7'x4' and situated so that there's space for a chair on both long sides. Now that I moved into a smaller apartment, I was planning to throw some thin board and a terrain mat on it for games.

edit: Actually, now that I look at it, Mik's carpet floor would look like a pretty good desert board. I was planning to do something similar by buying khaki felt and spattering it with thin paint. Mind if I borrow a piece?

So ah, does that bed slide out for after the game?

I've been looking at some options for a portable table at my home. I have a foosball table that I'd like to lay some padding on and then a 6x4 over the top. Was thinking of building the table with a wooden frame around the edges - the lip being big enough that I could hang it on a nearby wall when not in use. Paint the bottom as a cool piece of artwork.

I also like the folding closet doors idea, especially for tucking away when not in use.

Mine has removable rails that come across the width (8" wide) done in 6' sections.

Minimum table is 5 ft. 4 in. by 7 ft. 4 in. which gives standard 4 ft. by 6 ft. table and 8 in. of book/card/beer space around edges.

The table can currently be expanded to accommodate a 6 ft wide by 16 ft long gaming table at maximum with the 8" ledge around the edge.

I was actually thinking about making a 3'x4' dining / sofa table, that opens up to a 6'x4'.

4.5 x 4.5 typically because we play 1000 point or less terrain dense city fights. Use a 6 x 3.75 for larger battles
