If you're intrigued, take a look at allying into Armoured Company with your standard Guard. Super easy, as you can fill the mandatory Troops with any Russ you want. You can still take an Inquisitor too. But the kicker for Armoured Company (IMO) is A Command Tank Vanquisher, with Beast Hunter Shells, check this;
- BS4
- Can give Orders to other tanks(Concentrated Fire being the best - the same as Fire On My Target but for vehicles)
- LD 10 bubble around the tank
- Can take upgrades like +1 Hull Point
- Beast Hunter Shells cause Instant Death. Instant Death! INSTANT DEATH!

Seriously, it's a really good option. Be the bane of all those troublesome Riptides and Wraithknights.

Where are the most up-to-date rules for the Armoured Company? As in, what current hardcover book, or if FW released a free update, where is it located? I have seven Russes and the thought of a tank army absolutely tickles me.

However, anything could happen once the new codex comes out. Could be a while before FW puts out an FAQ to fix things.

I have been a fan of te Exterminator with las cannon and H poisons. Not the best tank, however, for 185 points, it is a great all comers tank. I have a ase 1500 point list does not change. The versatility of the weapons and armor platform works well for me.

I recently purchased an Executioner with Plasma sponsons but the funny thing I recently noticed is that instead of its hull Heavy Bolter, it has a Multi-melta. Now, I'll have to chop the thing off anyway but do you guys recommend replace it with the free Heavy Bolter or making it a Lascannon?

Honestly many of my Leman Russes no longer have hull Lascannons due to the Ordinance rules, but this is the new model of Russ so it will only ever be fielded as an Executioner. Thoughts?

Don't forget demolisher also. Basically, any russ has it's uses - except for lrbt. It's bad.

I am starting up an armored company army (Primary Detatchment) and from what I have seen and played with:

-Leman Russ Battle Tank: Good Solid tank with good strength and AP value, best to take with just a hull Heavy Bolter. By themselves they are middle of the road but if you take 3+ of these guys the weight of fire will begin to tell on your opponent. Honestly not my favorite but still a good solid choice.

-Leman Russ Eradicator: Give this guy Heavy Bolter Sponsons and you have one of if not the best infantry killer tank the IG can get and definitely one of the most underrated. Being S6 you still will wound Marines and Necrons on a 2+ and it will absolutely make most Xenos armies cry.

-Leman Russ Exterminator: Another underrated tank give this guy Heavy Bolter Sponsons and you have a good Infantry and Light armor killing vehicle. Personally I don't think you could ever have enough autocannons and the fact this has 4 TL shots on top of 9 Heavy Bolter shots that can move AND fire everything at Full BS is really nice.

-Leman Russ Vanquisher: Really only worth taking out of Imperial Armor Volume #1 Second Edition IMO as you get the Beast Hunter Shells and Command and Commissar Tanks being BS4 base and the Co-Axil Heavy Stubber potentially making the Vanquisher Cannon twin linked. Vendettas or Lascannon Heavy Weapons teams personally are a better investment for taking out tanks just through volume of shots.

-Leman Russ Punisher: Dakka spam for the win! A great tank for swarms of infantry or small elite units that you need to whittle down through volume of shots, however the drawback as mentioned is short range and middle strength. However put Pask in this bad boy and it becomes even better, have personally seen one of these take down both a Wraithknight and a few Riptides due to the number of shots.

-Leman Russ Executioner: Great amount of AP2 pie plates even though it is pricy, however it is a nightmare for Elite units and MEQ armies and if you have the points taking one is definitely not a bad investment.

-Leman Russ Demolisher: Great Damage and AP but suffers from the drawback the Punisher does being short range. However, running a few of these Naked will put the fear of god into all of your opponents as they have an armor 14 tank that can basically destroy anything it comes across.

Related Question: Is it better to squadron up the Leman Russes, or keep them as independent Heavy Support choices?
