I like the more "low-tech" style. It should look gritty and utilitarian instead of sleek and modern.
I think this reinforces the differences between the Imperium, who's tech advancements have stagnated thanks to the Mechanicus' dogmatic beliefs, and the advanced equipment of races like the Tau or Eldar.

I don't quite see the difference - the first one is clearly different, but I don't really see it with the others. I'd rather have a more gothic feel.

I go with a more mid-tech feel. Not so shiny utopian uber-suits, not steam punk or dieselpunk tech. Certainly not this "gothic" stuff which is often more bordering on Baroque or Rococo. Remember, if it's not baroque, don't fix it. 8-p

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I like the middle ground sci-fi/fantasy mish-mash.

It should be large, chunky and powerful looking to emphasise strength and power.
But it should also be adorned with their oath papers etc as they so generally have "fortress monastery's" to live in and do their training. That to me keeps them in character as being focused to their task.
Underneath it should be incredibly high tech. As you would expect for 40,000 year old technology to be. Plus it has a fusion power source right? That is theoretically insanely powerful so would allow for many, many trinkets.

I'm not really seeing how putting information systems on the forearm of a suit of combat armour where they would be immediately vulnerable to impact damage or environmental damage is a more high-tech solution than having a functional HUD...
As I understand those external displays are for people not wearing the armor and are pretty basic and very very durable. so that when an non-Apothecary or Soldier checks on a downed Marine they can tell if he is alive or dead and how much juice the armor still has.

Well, our idea of what "high tech" is going to look like is based on current understandings and is unlikely to be what it is actually going to look like.
See Star Trek tricorders that are larger than modern cell phones, computer readouts all in green in Alien, etc.
