The ork codex is the best written codex that GW has ever made. Through 3 editions it has remained competitive and morphing into different builds as the times change. No other codex is even close to maintaining this level of play for so long.

Are they outdated? Not really. Their power balance sits about mid of all the armies in the game.
Are they in need of an update? Yeah. They have about 50% less units than modern codexes due to the age since update. And with a codex as unique as Orks, thats almost criminal. At least forgeworld have made up where GW have failed though.

Personally, i'm afraid. With what GW did to nids, Orks new codex might look absolutely horrid. I would rather have the prospect of a new codex than the absolute train wreck that is the nid codex.

For me, the core of my ork army has moved away from boyz to nobs. I still have boys, but I don't build the army around them. Nob units with a like-armed warboss that makes the unit scoring are the key.

Same here - Bikernobs and meganobs in BWs carry the weight of my army now, at least in games of 1000 points and more. Boyz are still there, but more as harassers and late game objective grabbers than the frontline troops they once were.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.
