Dark elves are cool, and you can always paint them for the table, or go nuts and make them extra shiny.
Plus I'm already up to my neck in Dark Eldar for 40K so what the hell? Why not have a fantasy army of em IMO.
But nobody is EVER EVER EVER going to have me calling their infantry Dark this or Dim that. They're crossbowmen, swordsmen or spearmen end of discussion. Lol. Seriously, who took Matt Ward on? He's awful.

Haha. Just don't be too much of a nerd and research the D&D drow names for everything 
I, too, have a huge pile of dark eldar... not sure they'll ever get revisited. If mantic gets their stuff together regarding their twilight kin, I may someday consider having a dark elf host.. but meh. I'm somewhere around 75/25 scifi/fantasy these days, used to be a lot more even.
I think I had one of those old school dark elf sorceresses standing in for an archon for... ever. Pistol and a whip, then the corset, dress, and crown really just suited the role.

Skaven are one of the best horde armies to paint, though. Lots of brown ink or Devlan mud, etc and you and up with a great looking force. Dark Elves require much more care in their paint than Skaven...

But there are an awful lot less of them to paint...
That said there are fewer finer sights than a fully painted army of rancid ratmen arrayed on the tabletop, and as Azazelx says they can be relatively quick and easy to paint up.

It's currently looking like I'll be doing a joint Beastmen army with my brother- been reading Malus Darkblade "The Daemon's Curse" recently. A lot of conversion ideas.

So I got a good look at the Battle Systems Terrain today- pics by Slinky on here, looks like I've got my hands full. But it'll be a nice break from all those 'urty push fit plastic clips the Mantic stuff uses lol. My poor fingers!
Can't wait to get my box o'cardboard stuff

Nice- I think I have enough terrain to go with for now though. Speaking of terrain, I picked this up a while back. Fond childhood memories of this game . Nice terrain for fantasy/ 40K too I think (the Castle bit at least.)
Slap a base on it and bam! Evil temple ruins.

Heh. Was a brilliant game IMO.
Gots my Battle Systems KS pledge reward through in the mail today, courtesy of Wayland Games. Loving it. Really nice heavy duty cardboard.
Didn't do much with it this evening due to home made burgers and Captain America: Winter Soldier awesomeness.But... did get this rather awesome turbine piece put together..
Observe. Plus my newest Mantic Battlezones building...

OK- So I've just got my Deadzone Pt 2 pledge. Asterian weapon platforms are HUGE. The Asterians themselves are a bit small. Definitely not a good substitute for Wraithguard scale wise! Got all my missing bits and pieces too for the Enforcers and Marauders, as well as some awesome Merc goodness in the form of Sgt. Howlett. Though the Marauder Warboss' claw is substantially larger than his lol.
Mantic Zombies are awesome! Some really good variety in there. Even some female zombies which I've not seen many of.
Pics to follow when I get home.

I tried to collect Skaven in the past when was really much younger (think 10 or 12 at time) and due to attention span gave up as they were a lot, really good to paint but just got boring.
May try Skaven again in far far future so next year or so forth.
