Also, though this was earlier than tau, CSM came out with some new stuff in finecast, such as the warpsmith.

Fine cast is garbage. Usually the bubble occur in the most finicky of spots, and truly destroy any chance of having a beautiful model.

I hate finecast. Its garbage. GW should issue an apology about the product.

Thats how much I hate it.

GW claims they are a model company.

Models used for gameplay are primarily plastic because you need loads of them, usually. And they need to be able to handled. Plastic behaves differently to paints than resin or metal.

Model companies, legit 100% model companies, create metal miniatures for collector, hobby, and competitive painters. Many of the real top tier mini producers use metal because their models are a lower run and are usually more for display purposes.

Somewhere in between are resins.

Boutique/smaller games, like Infinity, have gorgeous metal miniatures with much, much smaller detail than compared to GWs heroic scale. Heroic scale was most likely not invented on purpose, but because it was easier to sculpt and put it in plastic in the days of yore prior to the innovations in model mass production we have now. Some of GW's older metal miniatures are more inline with a "True Scale" look than the modern take.

This SoB Hospitalier has to be one of my favorite GW minis because it's much closer to a true scale mini and shows off what they did with metal most recently.

Spoiler:

Thus given their push to plastics, the using of resin stop gaps, and the complete ending of metal production, GW is not really a model company. They produce models for games, more specifically. While their models are the best in the market for these purposes, saying they are the best miniatures is a falsity in comparison to the dedicated model companies.

Ral Partha would like to have a word with you. While they are certainly enjoyed by painters, the purpose of their product range is for use in games of Dungeons & Dragons and other fantasy RPGs.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I do not know what this Finecast you speak of is. Care to link up a GW webstore page that mentions it?

You will notice that all product descriptions now simply say "resin" on the new website...no finecast to be found even though it's the same material.
