How is that even that much of a bad thing? Also, how did they restrict anything with the new codex? By balancing the Vendetta with appropriate point cost or maybe by taking away all the ridiculous rules from Hydras putting it somewhat on par with your regular anti-air vehicles?
I know people get used to things they trust but is it really that bad that you have to adjust, rather than copy-paste your army list for next few years, playing it exactly the same way over and over again? Of course they could do it by making other builds viable but, oh, wait, they did! Of course Ogryns are pretty bad and a missed opportunity, but everything else is still as viable as it was before save for the missing special characters, maybe just more balanced in some fields. Now look at the powerful things they got - Leman Russ Punishers for example. The tank commander is another great addition to the army.
You know what'd happen if they kept it the way it was? People's army lists would not change at all, everyone would whine how crappy the Taurox, Wyvern and Ogryns are and there would be cries of 'copy-paste', stagnant, half-assed codex design.
Sheesh, the more time I spend on Dakka the more baffled I am by how the wargamers are -always- unsatisfied with everything new. Always and everything.
Oh, GW, you despicable monsters..!

By removing entire units, removing special characters that were required to unlock alternate army styles, and by nerfing transports so that the squads that used to use them can't use them effectively anymore.
or maybe by taking away all the ridiculous rules from Hydras putting it somewhat on par with your regular anti-air vehicles?
Lol, no. The Hydra was garbage in the previous codex, and hardly anyone used them. Now it just got nerfed severely, for no good reason.

Or, here's a better plan: don't create the Taurox or Wyvern at all. They're completely redundant units that have no reason to exist besides GW's business strategy of invalidating your existing army to get you to buy the newest kits.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Explain transport nerf and show me the difference between nerf and balancing on IG examples.
I don't know, people keep on whining now how great Hydra was before and now it's bad. Couldn't care less.
Yeah, why don't we just have them do minor tweaks for balance and not bring anything new into the codex. I'm sure that the community would appreciate the 5% change at full codex price without any new models and units!
The only thing I agree with is the characters, but I'm fairly sure they'll be back in supplements. Of course now I'll be bashed for encouraging the supplement money grabbing ultra-evil scheme, but I think it's actually nice to have themed books for themed forces such as, say, Marbo in Catachan supplement.
But, oh well, people will whine anyway, not sure why do I still care.

New Codexes are basically copy-paste jobs, from the fluff to the rules. They make minor (very minor) points adjustments. 5 points here, 20 points there. They don't even try to make units that are underused viable. Or at least they don't try to make all of them viable. They may target one or two units for an overhaul and the others either stay the same or there are very minor price adjustments.
They seem neither committed to making new content for 40k nor to creating a variety of different army lists.
I was astonished when I opened the DA dex, it's literally 90% the same damn thing as the last edition. They even copy the art over from the previous edition. What a joke. And they want you to pay $50 in hardcover for this gak? Why would I support the evolution of a franchise that just copy-pastes everything over, they're virtually subsisting solely on their IP at this stage. It would do them a favor to put them out of their misery and put the intellectual property in the hands of someone who actually cares about it.

Mother earth is pregnant for the third time, for y'all have knocked her up. I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe, but I was not offended. For I knew I had to rise above it all, or drown in my own gak. |
