I did that too. Mainly because I knew of a last name that is Wyche, pronounced Why-ch. Then someone told me the DE things are "witches". I went with it.

So, I live in Champaign, IL, which is right on the linguistic border between north and south, and it's kind of interesting. You go to a Hardees, for example, but they have southern accents. You'll hear someone talking in a midwestern accent, but then you'll get a "warsh" or an "AI-talian".

This translates to my FLGS as well. I've heard ogryn pronounced both ways, as well as a bunch of other stuff (khim-era vs. Ch-im-era, for example).

Holy crap, we're way closer than I thought. I didn't even know there was a place to play in Champaign.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I've always said Aw-grin, and everyone up here that I've heard say it says it that way as well. Looks like the northern USA pattern continues up into Canada.

Honestly, I don't understand how you can get to that.

You're just using your new yorker slant.

We personally pronounce Ogryn as "overpriced".

I pronounce it like əɡrɨn , but that is because I am weird.
Most Dutch people pronounce it oːɡrɪn

Damn that preshence thingy really hit me hard. I always felt so smart for calling it pre-science, as I have a soft spot for etymology. Double-checked it in a dictionary and now I have a new favorite word.

Ogryn: Ogg-grin. I know about the Oh-gah (Ogre) origin, but Oh-grin doesn't sound right.
Chimera is a word from centuries ago, and I've always heard it as Ky-meerah.
Prescience: Press-see-ence.
Griffon: Griff-fun

See, what's interesting to me is that only us Brits seem to pronounce Ogryn like that. How peculiar...

I call it soda pop.

you are some sort of radical hybrid heretic.

Ky-mere-uh, since crabs and nids are covered in ky-tun-us armor.
Webster says preshy-unce or pressy-unce. I go with the latter because it sounds more haughty and smug. I've never heard anyone call it pre-science, although that makes the most shence.
and Oh-grin, because i say Oh-gur. Did you see those hobbits kill that Awgur! Sounds weird.

I called the Awe-grins, but my brother has been calling them Oh-grins. Makes more sense as they are Ogres. Slowly adjusting to the "proper" pronunciation but I let a few awe-grins slip.
