Interesting, i knew there were instances of Space Marines being declared Renegade but did not know about the Blood Drinkers. Wait uh.. Blood Drinkers are kind of technically tainted by Chaos; they're the guys that have to deal with Fateweaver or whatever.

Sorry, my bad. I think it's the Knights of Blood who were officially declared renegade. Blood Drinkers are still within the Imperium's good graces.

....I think. Man, all these blood guys look alike!

*looks it up*

Yea, Knights of Blood are renegades (but still loyal in heart and act. ....too much in act (of killing things for the Emperor), which got them excommunicated in the first place. (another example that even the Imperium only lets you go so far with collateral damage.)

Blood Drinkers are still considered loyal by the Imperium.

There's a lot of Blood guys. Eventually there will just be Blood Blooding Blooders chapter. Ugh their even reusing the same names, there's a Knights of Blood Chaos Space Marine chapter as well.

Haha, the Flame Falcons have the worst defect ever. Burst into Flames.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

To games workshop's credit, their names are the same and their primarch is as well, but the story behind them is very different. Blood Drinkers have control over the flaw but may have secretly damned themselves, Knights of Blood lost control of the flaw and are renegade but still loyal at heart, Flesh Tearers are falling to the flaw but Seth is doing his damndest to not let it sully their name and honor, Lamenters lost the flaw but might have gained something worse in return and then the flaw came back, and Blood Angels are like, the in-between Ultramarines of it all.

It shows that even with the same theme you can pull off a lot of variance if you try hard enough.

....getting back on topic, that applies to the renegades too. Astral Claws, Relictors, Knights of Blood, Soul Drinkers, and Crimson Slaughter all have wildly divergent stories, not all of them ending up in Chaos' arms.

Alpha Legion should be mentioned. Their battle cry is still "For the Emprah!"

Celestial Lions are also worth mentioning, as they've made an enemy of the inquisition.

And the Emperor's Children still call themselves "Emperor's Children"... the CSM do understand irony.

Check the Alpha Legion fluff; their allegiance is to allegiances what the platypus is to grammar. feth knows.

Celestial Lions are still officially loyalist even in Imperium records. The whole thing with the Inquisition trying to kill them was off the record (and, technically, never proven, which is emphasized/stated in the novel on the issue, even though it's HIGHLY likely unless you really believe in ork snipers. However, the Inquisition isn't a unified force so it's possible it was just a branch or maybe even someone else that did that sniping)

Given that there have been a few Alpha Legion daemon princes in the fluff (well, at least one off the top of my head. Voldarius. Sindri too if you count Dawn of War), I'd say that at least some of that legion has fallen to Chaos.

Heterodoxy is still heresy. Even if alpha legion is working towards the same goal as the Imperium, the fact that they've forsaken loyalty means they're still traitors, and still chaos.

They're just a form of chaos that thinks it's making everything better, just like how noise marines are trying to bring the gift of music to the galaxy.
