This is by and large a terrible example as the artist forgets that power armor is described as being incredibly thick.

This.
They'd be more like the middle pic. Or to give an IRL example, Arnie in Predator. Slim but still very muscular.

Have you seen how ludicrously thick in the artwork power armor is designed to be? I mean the paudlrons alone look to be as thick as my fist.
The real question is always 'how the heck do Space Marines FIGHT in that? getup?'

Artistic Licence allows them to use power armour effectively.

Because it has joints. The pauldrons are simply ablative armor loosely connected to the arm, so when you lift back your arm, it rolls over to free up space. The only mobility problem I've noticed in power armor is stuff like Mark IV Maximus, where the torso seems to be rigid, making rolls completely impossible.

Don't forget that the shoulder pads are 'auto-reactive', they move out of the way et cetera, they aren't just solid lumps of ceramite that hang off a Marine's arms and getting in the way.

Interesting thread! I've always wondered about the height/weight of Space Marines in power armour.
Or to be more precise, how Space Marines in power armour are able to maneuver through buildings designed to accommodate the size and weight of normal humans without having to smash through walls/bash their heads through ceilings/have floors constantly give way under them. There's probably an entire sub-department of the Adeptus Administratum who go round checking buildings throughout the Imperium and fining owners if the doors aren't big enough for a Space Marine to get through

It's also a result of the ghothic architecture of the Imperium. Everything is overbuilt.

If that were true they wouldn't be able to get their arms clear of the chestpiece. No, Space Marines are necessarily as broad over the chest as the third image shows. They are practically abhuman in proportions, not just really tall.

The ankle joints can be problematic too depending on which pictures you want to believe. I remember reading one post where someone did some calculations to show a space marine couldn't climb stairs because they couldn't deflect their ankles enough. Just another thing to be aware and make note of.

This is a shot of an unarmoured Marine I sculpted next to an ordinary 54mm human and an armoured version of a Marine which was built over a resin cast of my unarmoured Marine. The second photo shows an Artemis conversion to compare my Marine to a 'heroic' GW figure.

Ill just post this again. Power armour probably only adds a few inches at most (the tall basketball player is 7'1" btw).

My Marine worked out at something like 7'1" as I recall and that basketball player there seems to tie in nicely with that; absolutely huge. Great picture by the way Vodo, I shall be adding that to the pile!
