I doubt Space Marines fart. They have given up their very humanity to defend the IoM and dare I say, farting is a very human thing to do.
Psienesis wrote:All SM PA, and this would include TDA, I would imagine, has waste-recycling systems that converts bodily waste into water and nutrient paste for long-term operational sustainability.
I remember seeing an old edition break down of how Power Armor Worked. The Waste Recyling plant is located in the backpack and ( IIRC) diverts waste to power the generator. Basically, all Space Marines have a catheter.
A while back, my friends and myself had trouble seeing why a Space Marine would need a corrosive venom sac. We came to the conclusion that at some point in their lives, a Space Marine will become trapped, with his power armor damaged and his respirator failing. Most likely in the rubble of an exploded Rhino, but perhaps in the rubble of a building hit by a drifting artillery shell, or buried beneath so many bodies of his enemies that not even he can lift it. Desperate for air, with his armor failing him, he will have to use his Corrosive Venom to eat away at his cracked and broken helmet, freeing himself to breathe and ultimately to escape. This is how Space Marines lose their helmets and become Sergeants. Then, as per the rules of 40k physics, they become immune to almost all Head-shots.

except every single animal farts.
It is a biological process from digesting food, space marines still eat and digest food.
there was also an old piece of fluff I remember reading somewhere that a SM PA gorget includes a small force field generator for when their helmets are off while in battle, but that also might have just been someone at GW making a joke to justify helmet-less Sgts and Captains.

Well yeah, but I couldn't resist a bad joke about Space Marines being better than that. Maybe I worded it badly. Same goes with the immune to head shots thing. It's just a bad joke out of the mouth of an idiot. Also there's no canon source (that I'm aware of) that says Space Marines have catheters, that was just my joking analysis.

Fluff-wise, helmets actually don't do much given their thin nature and tend to get wasted by a single bolt if the wearer isn't outright killed. It's a choice between mild to moderate protection with a helmet, or greater situational awareness as helmets tend to gimp the augmented senses of the astartes wearing it.
As for the acid, realistically besides a good means of escape, it's a good last-ditch defense in melee against an enemy about to overpower you when astartes often assault enemy forces physically with elbow and blade.

Better yet what happens when they sneeze without a helmet to contain it? I assume that would be a template weapon of some kind.

If it's got more range than my Shining Spears gun, I'm upset. I suggest:
6" S4 AP d6 Assault d6 (Bunch or single of little or big sneeze(s)).
Xeno Pollen comes in many forms which can cause a variety of sneezes, which can vary in number and severity. But all SM Sneezes are powerful (thus S4).

I imagine that anything that would get past the Marine's ability to fight a disease would kill him outright, and a sneeze would not have time to generate.

Actually in one of Ragnar's books his friend and packbrother Sven farted and Ragnar Joked on the fact that the thunderhawk accellerated
SM power armor can be pressurized and sealed but it's not mandatory, at least on friendly environments
a PA helmet can resist a kiss from a choppa, a sneeze wont damage it, but knowing the pulmonary capacity of a marine a SM sneeze could easly topple a close human
and guys remember, SM physiology is based on standard humans, they can fart, puke, sneeze and all the nasty stuff too, anyway usually a marine will try to suppress any sign of weakness, especially in front of nonchapter allies
lastly there are various examples of marines sneezing, and coughing (like Sven (the same one) and the other battlebrothers into Lord Botchulaz's Prison, and another SW in the deathwatch Killteam that Uriel Ventris leaded into a Tyranid ship, he removed his helmet and took a deep breath of tyranid bio-atmosphere, leading to some coughing
n0t_u wrote:Do they always spit acid, or do they actually have the ability to choose if they secrete the acid or not?
they have to choose, many glands, organs and bio-engineering skills in a SM phisiology are active only skills, others are both active and passive like the Sus-An membrane or the Multi-lung

Huh. Interesting. And we have our (serious/ actual) answer. Thank you. In the spirit of 40k humor, and as I seek to foster ties with Cegorach, (take this as seriously as you want because I haven't given it much thought before or beyond this post) I propose a SM Sneeze as follow. At the top of your turn take a Toughness Test. If you fail, you gain (6" S3 AP- Assault d6) attack until the end of the next (player) turn . The Test for a sneeze can only be taken on a turn where a unit starts within 12" of Alien Forests/Ponds/ect (posted inside also counts). Maybe also include certain Xenos Units.

This whole thing about Astartes farting and sneezing made me think of an earlier discussion of whether SM are capable of... Ehhh... 'Loving' or not.
I proposed the fact that even if for some indiscernable reason they would want to, and assuming they retain their equipment, it would probably be difficult because of their weight, size and strength- I mean, those guys can probably shatter several types of walls with pelvic thrusts. Who would want to be on the recieving end of that? Dx

I cannot for the life of me remember where I read it, but one primarch supposedly had a breeding program for his marines, and ended up getting only horrific mutants out of the "organic" methods. He killed them all, and then exiled himself.

yep corax tried to find a fast method to produce marines... they could barely lift a rifle
about the ... mating process, space marine CAN mate(look at the slaanesh traitors and their fondness for SoB) but the chemical process which turn an adolescent human male into a superhuman warrior is tailored to remove the sexual urge, a loyalist marine can be fond of a female, even somehow fall in love, but he will not feel the necessity to "exchange fluids" so to speak, probably all this was arranged to avoid offsprings with mixed genetics and genetic deviance of humanity populations
