One more question; I believe ther's something like a second edition rulebook coming out this year with all the additional fluff and stats and whatnot. Is that right? If so, is there an ETA on it?

Malifaux is in Second Edition (M2E) right now. The first book had all of the core rules (everything you'll need to play the game) + All of the Wave 1 stat cards.

Based on the most recent Wyrd Chronicles (Wyrd's free e-magazine, It's definitely worth checking out!), it looks like book 2 is finally coming out (probably around GenCon). This book will have the rules for Avatars (which just finished playtesting a bit ago) and the Wave 2 stat cards (maybe something else, I'm not sure).

Lots of people are expecting this due to this art released in the new Wyrd Chronicles:

Personally, I'm betting it's not the second book , but more of a mini-campaign like the University of Transmortis is.

All right, thank you. So readind this; "This book will have the rules for Avatars (which just finished playtesting a bit ago) and the Wave 2 stat cards (maybe something else, I'm not sure)." does that mean that Book 2 won't include the core rules, just the additional Avatar rules? (I'm just checking as I'd rather have everything in one book if I can help it).

Instead of making a new one of these threads, I thought I'd drop in here. Today I bought the M&SU box along with the rulebook and a fate deck.

I really like the look of the Bad Dreams box and will go forward with Neverborn instead of Arcanists, however has the Bad Dream box been discontinued?

.Mikes., it'll be an expansion book with models and new rules, not the core rules (assuming it follows the same pattern as last edition's books)

tigerstyle, bad dreams is moving to plastic like all of the metal stuff in their line, so may not be in print right now.

Awesome, thanks. So I have no reason not to pick up the Second Ed rulebook.

One more questions (again), the onslaught decks (I believe that's their title), do they include all the second ed cards for the related faction? Are they a necessity?

Arsenal. They include the cards from wave 1, not wave 2. So I think thats all the cards present in M2e rulebook

Right, cool. Thanks for all the info. Looks like I'm heading down to my FLGS at lunch then.

I went ahead and picked up some models just because they look rad. Jack Daw is such an iconic figure in the game, I couldn't say no to having him on my shelf.

Also, I like that this thread just keeps going. Lots of info!

I think my plan at the moment is to build a couple "shoot out" crews, since that's what I did with Warmachine to build a decent collection and have enough models to show off the rules.

One last question (and thanks to everyone who's provided info here, it looks like it's helped out a few of us newcomers).

Aside from the big rulebook that I won't be getting for a while, is there any good sources of Malifaux fluff? The background seems like a great feature of this game, and there looks to be a lot to take in, so any and all links/suggestions would be appreciated.

Tomorrow, I'll be picking up a few minis and finally taking the plunge...

The rulebooks for editions 1 and 1.5 are loaded as well (and marked down on Wyrd's store). Every book updates the storyline. There has been a lot of chatter about a fluff compendium of sorts, which is certainly possible, but I would give it a few months.

The old books are pretty good reads. The old wyrd chronicles are actually the beginning of the story, which then mostly continues through without any wyrd chronicles stories. IIRC, it goes WC 1-3 , all of 1st edition, then some of the WC stories before M2e and the rest post M2e core.

If just looking for story, they're all fine, but I think the writing starts getting better around the 2nd or 3rd book.

I forgot about the Wyrd Chronicles!

Definitely download them (they are free) and give you tons of Malifaux information (stories, battle reports, painting guides, tournament articles). My favorite is the story of a Death Marshal who abandoned his post to meet Zoraida in order to save his wife from hearing voices.

Also, read this. You will not regret it.

Awesome, thanks guys. I downloaded the most recent Wyrd Chronicles and had a read, but I'll now go and download the back issues at some point. I'll also check out that link, Dr What.
