Perhaps the exploration message is a negative one -- kind of running away from the responsibilities at home to follow a dream.
I'm basing this on a couple of lines within the trailer, but I think the exploration and seeking a "new earth" thing is the goal, and not a negative tone....
In the office scene, when McConaughey is called in, and the other dude says something to the effect of "we didn't run out of TVs, we ran out of food" tells me that there is something going on ecologically, that is affecting the food production of the planet, and making things rather difficult for everyone (Soylent Green is always a good solution for food shortages in the future though

)
Also, as mentioned previously, Michael Caine's character states "we're not meant to save the planet, we're meant to leave it"
