The Burble

Necrons are legendary for their Mary Sue background. It's completely boring, but some guys just have to know that their imaginary space soldiers are the bestest and could beat anyone hands down, any time, no problem. The downside is that makes them pretty obnoxious people to be around but in the magical world of imagination it doesn't matter since the tin men have no weakness no rivals no possible point at which they can be challenged by anyone, anywhere, ever. So fun.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

I don't think I've ever seen someone's butt hurting this bad, and I currently have a bruised tailbone.

Necrons can be defeated. But at the ABSOLUTE HEIGHT OF THEIR POWER, the only things that were capable of defeating them (Assuming the Necrons don't have the C'tan for the sake of argument) is the Old Ones. The beings that created the webway, tamed the warp, created entire species, and were practically immortal. The IoM could never even hope to achieve an inkling of that kind of power. Their ships rely on the warp, Necron ships use the webway, thereby outmaneuvering them at every turn, not to mention that in the Materium Necron ships can travel at pretty close to the speed of light. Necrons can time travel, snuff out stars at the flick of a switch, teleport across half the galaxy, turn your armour to dust, phase in and out of reality at will, take your technology and turn it against you, corrupt your Machine Spirits, use your resources to build new bodies for themselves, and at the height of their power, I'm pretty sure they vastly outnumbered humanity. So, take every human being, and for each one there's a Necron. Now think about how many humans are actually capable of combat.

As much as I've enjoyed reading this thread, it's not really a hypothetical, there's just no physical way the IoM could stand a chance, because they're not meant to. The point of the IoM in terms of how they've been written is that they're pretty much the underdogs in every conceivable situation, desperately clinging on to existence despite being fought at all sides. Even at their technological height, they were to the Eldar as a Chimpanzee is to us. And the Eldar were the progeny of the Old Ones, with the slightest fraction of their power.

Don't forget the ability of a great deal of Necron tech to completely phase out of existence and laugh off everything you fire at them before immediately phasing back into a corporeal form and blowing you away.

Some Tomb World in some galaxy by that one thing in that one place (or Minnesota for nosy people)

Necrons all the way, the fact that they were able to defeat 2 different races of gods should be more than enough to show how powerful the necrons were.

Not to mention weapons with names like "DEATH RAY" and "HEAT RAY".
