I buy direct from GW, either going into GW at the Coliseum in Ottawa and buying it off the shelves, or ordering it through their in-store order point and having it shipped to the store.

My dog makes answering the door a pain, because as soon as he sees a person step out of a vehicle out front and start walking up to the door, he goes nuts, barking constantly and often snapping at people who try to move him out of the way to answer the door, so I've stopped doing it. Plus my irregular sleep schedule means I could easily be asleep when the delivery guy comes.

I used to shop at a store I used to play at, but they've since shut down and sold off their gaming room when they moved to a different location and no longer had easy access to it. They also stopped offering a discount on Warhammer 40,000 stuff a number of years ago, and I'm wary of that "No Returns or Exchanges" sign on their cash register. I don't like confrontation, and am not very assertive (especially with strangers). Sometimes I still go in there to see if they have any OOP stuff, but for most things, I just go to Games Workshop. I haven't gamed at a store (including the local Games Workshop) since 2003 or 2004, so it's not like I'm using their space and not investing money back into the store. I have my own 6 foot by 4 foot gaming table, complete with some forests made from Woodland Scenics trees on bases, some Games Workshop hills, some defence lines that I like to set up in defensive positions for both sides, the crashed Aquila lander from an older starter kit, and a few crude foamboard buildings and towers.

Anyways, I like my local Games Workshop. The staff are helpful, but not pushy (though I only go in there to buy stuff, not to play). At the checkout, they remind me of things I may have forgotten - just a quick, "Need any paints? Glue?" "Nope." "Alright then." The gift card system is rather annoying, I'll admit, but that's hardly the staff's fault. (With how the gift cards work, there's no way to see how much is left on it, instead it's basically a "trial and error" thing if you don't know how much is on it (such as having received it at Christmas and used it for the first time in June). And you also can't just charge X to it, where X is the amount of money left on it up to the total of your purchase. My solution was to recommend that instead of gift cards, cash with a note "to spend at Games Workshop" would be better. Cheques would also work, but I hate going to the bank to cash them and hate dealing with ATMs to deposit cheques even more, so a lot of my cheques go undeposited. I don't think I've ever deposited a GST tax credit cheque. : / I like tangents though, and often forget what I was typing/talking about when I go without sleep.

My question is how did the retailer not checking his email cause you to have an NSF charge?

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

I used to go through my FLGS despite their lack of discounts to support them, but then they closed down the first of June. So now online is my only option unless I want to drive 200 miles (no thank you).
