Sorry the Eldar part, inherently false, unless where you play people are still in the mindset of tabling. Eldar hasn't won a Maelstrom game out here using old lists since 7th launched, neither has Tau. Those players, ask to do Eternal War missions now and get a resounding no.
Against which army? I played against eldar 4 times now , they were 6th ed . 4+ serpents a big ,2 seers , all had one WK , one had a baronstar , the second had weapon platforms and the third had 6 serpents. Neither had problems with doing any of the objecitves , unlike my IG.

I also prefer the broader strategy that comes from playing for an endgame, not a turn by turn scramble for whatever the cards dictate.
Sorry but if you're playing a turn by turn scramble, you're doing it wrong Automatically Appended Next Post: Makumba wrote: Lobomalo wrote:

IG? How many tanks? Did you try and enter the field of battle or did you sit back like many other IG players? Also, I've been dominating with my Tyranids, GK have been awesome, DE have even won quite a bit, IG struggles but it's more of a mindset than a tactic with them, same with Eldar and Tau. It isn't about gun lines and it isn't about scrambling around to reach objectives.

I'm loving the modified maelstrom that the BAO put out for their missions, its really helped with the "I got screwed by the cards" problem and requires less book keeping if you lack the decks of cards which are sold out all around me atm.

What ya think about the objectives counting at the end of the game turn though? seems like it would be really strong for second player as pointed out iirc.

I agree with those saying that "scrambling from turn to turn" is taking the wrong approach. A lot of the cards require a bit of careful planning over the course of two or three turns, and you will find that those "impossible cards" are not as frequent as the interwebz lets on. The rules do allow you to discard a card each turn, and its very rare that you will turn in all cards in a single turn. In our first 7th edition game, we discarded I think 3 cards over the course of 7 turns, and two of the claimed cards were the more difficult cards that ended up winning my opponent the game.

I've seen one impossible card, kill a flier or MC. In our playgroup, I'm the only one with MC cause I'm Tyranids and I haven't bought any air for my 2nd army yet, so me drawing that card, pointless, but it isn't game breaking.

I don't like the cards. I feel they replace strategy with a gimmick. To win the game now you have to turn as many cards in a turn as possible or lose. The better draw has the advantage. I don't think they enhance the game so much as distract from it.
What I think we will see in the future are armies designed only to table their opponents, because the objectives will be an unreliable way to win. IMO competitive players and narrative players lose that way.

I really like them, I will probably play these over the old six missions 8/10. I can't recommend at least having a go at them enough even if it's just for the heck of it. Maelstrom has do Mich goodness baked inside the flavor.. It would make a grown man pay his child support.
I give them a 9/10 and hope to see more mission cards in the future. I'd love to see a maelstrom tournament/league

How do tanks help do objectives ? If I drive a LR up it doesn't shot , if it stays it is away from objectives. If I try to grab objectives with foot squads , they are too slow and die to mass no cover and multi shot weapons. If I try to use my two chimera vet squads, they get blown up and unlike serpents do get stoped by impossible terrain and have weaker armor. In 6th I could at least use vendettas and vets to do late turn objective grabs , but now they cost too much to fit more one in to the list and all armies I faced could either deal with one vendetta or could just ignore.
And this is just one army . I have the same problems with necron spaming their av13 transport along side flyer transports and invunerable chariots inside units of wraiths. Demons being in melee turn two while spaming summoning and stoping my psyker from casting anything.
So could you tell more how IG should play , because I realy don't have fun right now.

Well, in our upcoming RTT we'll play one maelstrom mission (out of three) but restrict to the missions 11 to 36.
Fair enough.
