Subject: Athletic Recognition for Quidditch?

I saw a bunch of people playing this at Comicpalooza in Houston a few years ago.
Running with a broom stick between your legs that you hold with one hand is totally phallic. Funny as feth, though.

I say again, sports inherently look silly to someone who isn't interested in them. In Basketball why do the players bounce the ball off the floor? That's just dumb and it tears up your play surface. Why not have them be required to hold the ball in one hand? It accomplishes the same effect and doesn't seem anything like as absurd. In American Football, why have two incredibly derpy tuning fork goalpoasts at the end of each field? We have the technology, just have two laser sensors to see if the ball remains within the bounds. It accomplishes the same effect without having that absurd PVC pipe slingshot thing at either end of the field. In Hockey you have a bunch of grown men sliding around on ice skates. Why not just play it on a hardwood floor? It looks a lot less ridiculous than the idea of giant athletic guys covered in pads supporting themselves on little metal blades meant for figure skating. Some things are so core to an activity's identity that removing them would turn it into a completely different activity (also I hope that at least some of you now understand my initial reaction when people said that quidditch looks absurd). P.S. I also just had the amusing thought that Kronk's and my avatar should start a band.

The reason for dribbling in basketball is that its *supposed* to be done in accordance with the players movement, providing opportunity for the opposing team to defend the ball away from said player and take possession. I say *supposed* because it is an increasingly ignored rule in what is an already stupid and gakky sport, so its a moot point anyway.
In football the goalposts exist to mark an elevated scoring zone, the alternative would be to mark it with what is effectively and 'H' shaped set of double posts, the tuning fork shape saves material and increases sightlines from the stands... DUH. Also, lasers are not yet at a point where they could readily be used in the game (while still allowing the audience, players, and refs to all be able to visibly see them).
Hockey played on a hardwood floor is no longer ice hockey, but in fact floor hockey, its a separate sport, but unpopular as both the players and the puck move at a much slower pace making for a slower, less exciting, and less physically challenging sport. Also, the skates used in hockey are significantly different from those used in figure skating.
In other words, all your examples are weak and unrealistic. The use of a broom or a stick between the legs, on the other hand, is an absurdly stupid attempt to tie back into the game as described in the books, which as stated previously is something that the 'sport' is attempting to move away from in order to be taken seriously. Keeping said stick between your legs looks ridiculous, serves no purpose, and only serves to perpetuate the idea that Quidditch is a bunch of nerds pretending to be Harry Potter and co.

So that's what was in that contract Yak made me sign that one night after I got drunk. I always kind of wondered! I guess we're obligated to put on a show now. We'll open with our acoustic rendition of "Amerika", then transfer into a couple Irish drinking songs, then we'll end with our fan favorite "Remember Falujah". If we get an encore we're considering testing out something new. We call it "The Strawman Shuffle." That might be a little bit too edgy to perform publicly though...

Don't forget the version of the Electric Slide that has to be done.
I can see Nerf looking into this game. To replace the wooden broom handles and PVC pipes with Nerf version (the pool one). I can see the rules calling for that. Less chance of causing blunt trauma
