Except that the rule for not being allowed to allocate attacks on a standard bearer are in the rules for allocating melee attacks.

As a matter of fact, in the standard bearer rules, it even acknowledges they can be singled out by spells targeting single models.

So. Tell me where in that rule it overrides ANY form of targetting restrictions?

A single enemy model has no targeting restrictions whatsoever. What in the game is not a single enemy model? Targeting restrictions are UNITS. It is the most basic concept of shooting. P. 39. The very first sentence.

"A model can shoot at an unengaged enemy unit..." (emphasis added)

The spells say you can target:

"a single enemy model" (emphasis added)

That is where it overrides it. A model is anything in the game (including a character in a unit, including a bannerman in a unit, including a musician in a unit, including the 4th goblin in the 3rd row in a unit).

Guys. Seriously. This is a YMDC discussion, happening in a Tactics thread.

I would like to point out that static combat res doesn't usually do much against Deathstars. Often because they include some way to be Stubborn, but mostly because they're so good at killing your units.
Say it's Throgg and 18 Trolls, a pretty standard Deathstar. Now, if you've managed to surround his whole unit, we can probably assume that you took some serious casualties in the destroying of the rest of his army, and you're left with less-than-stellar troops, so let's assume they're T4. That's over 19 wounds you're taking. Which means, even with static combat res, you'll need to cause 10 unsaved wounds to those Regenerating Trolls. To tie.

Big multiwound model death stars make me love my WLCs even more. Pretty much any death star does.

Except BotWD stars. Frell those pointy eared bastards.
