OP, if you have friends who play 40k: go for it.

If you are looking to play pick-up games, it may be a bit rough feeling out "fair" games to play.

Just what I have found with the latest rule sets.

Keeping up with all the additional materials that other armies use is a rather expensive prospect, I used to buy all the codex's but with all these supplements I have given up.

You can only hope your opponent is real honest about their source material.

As others have suggested, play another game and if you find an individual who is a fun opponent, see if they play / played 40k.

A revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.
