Marines in the lore are basically the stupidest concept in 40k. THey are portrayed as so impossibly durable and hard to tkill that wrapping battle tanks in marines would be the best way to create an invulnerable tank. They are so good in the lore that putting a marine in a dreadnaught armor actually makes them WORSE since they lose the power of never being killed.

Take the idea that there are accounts of battles with millions of deaths and they say two marines died and Brother Marius got a hang nail.

The fluff is obviously some sort of propaganda piece. In terms of the less Black Library and more actual fluffy concepts, small unit hit and run and focused assault is pretty much the name of the game. They know how and when to strike, they take off the vulnerable parts, use rapid redeployment, and move to the next spot. The Imperial Armor book Kastra Novem did a fantastic job of showing what it looks like when marines are facing a massive force.

Painted armies:

Orks: 11000 points
Marines: 9500 points
Khorne Marines: 2500 points
Khorne Demons: 1500 points
