Yep, I actually did that. Added a unit, deployed it in the corner and never touched it.

You could of at least let it sit on an objective... meany.

That would defeat the point of testing a list at 1850, you do not want the enemy to be concerned with that unit either, you do not want them influencing the battle in any way.

If it was at the Glen Burnie bunker, that also means it was fourth edition at the latest. Can't remember if any of the standard missions did objectives. Occupying table quarters, certainly. Should pull out the old rule book - although thinking hard on it, I do recall seeing Space Hulk there before it closed, which meant it stuck around until early 5th.

Over is over, whether it is one point, five points or 20 points. If we agreed on 1850 and you show up with 1851, you are already cheating. "But it's only one point!". Yeah, sure, and that meltabomb or that 2 point upgrade or whatever can change the game. Bottom line. Be polite and don't cheat.

I've never liked this argument much, because it's really not about how much a game could pivot on that single point or item, but rather, it's not a rules gray area. It's not something that suddenly leaps out and takes you by surprise. It's just like sliding your model a little farther than 3" when you roll a 3 on your run distance. You're deliberately choosing not to abide by the standard rules, to which my response would be, "Why are you doing that? Stop it."

Ah, old scenario... I'm sorry, I over looked that.
I was just picturing the poor troops being told to 'Hurry up and wait.'

I understand people saying a points limit is a points limit. I'm fairly new and I make up a ton of possible lists. I don't want to cheat. I'm it's easier for certain armies to cut out 3-5 points I was asking this question because at the time I was working on a Necron list where I was either over by one or under by 29. (Cheapest thing to cut out was 30pts) Now that I know it is a bigger deal than I thought to be over by one point, I will work harder on my lists to ensure that they never go over on points. I don't like being called a cheater for a question I asked to make sure I was being fair to my opponent.

Why could you just not drop a single warrior or immortal from one of your troop choices, they do not cost anywhere near 30 points.

Minimum squad size?

A model requires the purchase of a weapon?

A squad wide upgrade, so the model gets discounted twice?

There are several reasons why simply dropping a model out of a squad has a greater impact than the cost of a single model.

As to being a cheater, you are not "cheating" at all. The game even mentions in the building a list as points being optional(I don't remember the exact words). So long as you and your opponent agree to how the game is being played, have fun. Pull out your entire collection against his entire collection, roll dice, play game, have fun. Just talk to the guy you are going to be playing, and come to an agreement.

For tournaments, no overages.

Well you're not really going over a point limit if you and your opponent agree to not use one...

I don't think anyone was calling you a cheater. It's more like an explanation as to why people care about it so much, because it could be considered cheating.

As for having a 30 point minimum change, I recommend looking for another place in your list where you could add some points. Maybe an upgraded weapon for your lord, maybe another body or two in one of your squads. There's got to be some way to gain back some of those 30 points.

If you've agreed to a points limit and go over, then you are cheating. The rulebook even says to "... make sure that the total does not exceed the limit agreed upon for the game." Just because points are "optional" doesn't mean you get to ignore them at your whim if you've agreed to a points limit.

My last game my opponent asked for 7 points over. He is a good friend and all so I said I'd throw in a extra gargoyle, but those 7 points were probably far more beneficial to him than me, it does grind my gears

If your 10 points under your 10 points under. If you agree on a points limit that's the limit, renegotiating is cheap and going over without renegotiating is cheating.

It's my codex and I'll cry If I want to.

Tactical objectives are fantastic
