More stretch goals goodness - art cards
Hey everybody,
I'm about to settle down to an evening of Kickstarter campaign tinkering and World Cup watching, but there's exciting Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke action to talk about too.
A big hello to new backers coming over from the world of Guild Ball! I'll be making an update later tonight that gets into more detail on Harry 'The Hat' Hallahan and how he came about. Suffice to say, I'm really pleased to be working on this model alongside Rich and Mat. It's been loads of fun sorting the character out and bringing in some new ideas.
But, until then, Art Postcards are here:
Every backer at Scuffle and above will get a set of 10 art postcards. The designs will be picked by you guys over the course of the campaign. I'll do an individual update about this next week. But, for now, you can all look forward to getting some cool art.
The campaign is now on the way to the £32k stretch goal. This will bring in a new model to the streets of London, landing in the regular category - Captain Brindie.
This is one of my favourites of the new Infamy: WtTBS miniatures. Brindie is in a very relaxed pose, enjoying a smoke and a drink, and was sculpted by David Arberas. In terms of his background, Captain Brindie is a dashing, swashbuckling sort who is famed for his acts of valour and daring-do... the thing is, he's actually a bit of a coward, he just happens to be extremely lucky and extremely good at inflating his own reputation!
Here's a look at the Captain Brindie sculpt. His mechanical monkey is an optional part and you'll be able to build the model without him on the shoulder. You can, of course, use the spare simian on the base or with another project.
Just a little tease of what could come after Captain Brindie. Nothing more than a name right now but this should be a good one!
And a final reminder that we are only a few backers away from getting cheaper add-on minis added for anyone spending more than £150. So, please spread forth, like a flock of annoying pigeons, and tell your friends about Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke!
Cheers,
James

Update #8 Jul 13 2014
Guild Ball crossover - Harry 'The Hat' Hallahan
Hey folks,
The World Cup is over and done with and Germany are the champions. But let's be honest, the real winner was football... or something like that!
Ok, I have to admit it - what with the build up to my Kickstarter being at the same time as the World Cup, I've barely been able to pay attention to football's premiere event. But there was no way I was going to miss out on some sort of football-related excitement this campaign.
So, allow me to introduce Harry 'The Hat' Hallahan, a crossover miniature between me and the fine folks at Guild Ball! This is something that I've been talking to Rich and Mat about for a while and we've concocted a character who we are all rather happy with!
The design process for Harry consisted of three main elements:
•Working out a character who could fit into the worlds of both Guild Ball and Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke - we eventually decided that a bruiser, hooligan type who could potentially fit multiple guilds or go clobbering on the streets of London would be very cool.
•Writing a description to send to Silviu Sadoschi, my concept artist - this described the physicality of Harry, his clothes, pose and his multiple accessories, which were all designed to allude to various Guild Ball guilds as well as fitting in with the Big Smoke setting of Infamy: WtTBS.
•A back-and-forth between Silviu and the three of us, where we gave feedback and tweaked the art. This mostly consisted of 'Can you make the hat a bit bigger?' followed by an updated concept, followed by 'Can you make the hat a bit bigger?'
And we finally ended up with the dangerous looking chap you see above - Harry 'The Hat' Hallahan.
So he'll have rules for both games?
He most certainly will! Rich is taking Harry as an opportunity to do something a bit unusual for Guild Ball and test out a Union guy who can play for various guilds. I should probably be worried that this model is a guinea pig in his evil game design plans, but I'm really digging the idea and think that it could be super interesting.
As for Infamy: WtTBS, Harry will be a true bruiser on the streets of London, cracking skulls for fun and offering his muscle to any Kingpin willing to pay the right price. The different equipment that comes with the model will go some way to dictating his core specialism.
Who will be making him?
The three of us will make a final decision about Harry's sculptor in the next few weeks. I guess it's fair to say that I will be leading this process somewhat, as I am producing the model. I'll be in close consultation with Mat and Rich though, and we've made sure that the concept is beefy enough to sit comfortably with the look of existing Guild Ball models.
I have some very skilled sculptors in mind and, like the rest of the Guild Ball models and many from Infamy: WtTBS, he will be a digital model. This will give lots of versatility and potential for easy tweaks, which is probably going to be important with all three of us attempting to spoil the miniature broth during the approval process!
Looking ahead
Hopefully this is the start of some fun times ahead for Infamy Miniatures and Guild Ball.
As I've already discovered through being a member of British Indie, alongside Warploque Miniatures, White Dragon Miniatures and JoeK Minis, partnerships like this help build the growing British miniatures and wargaming scene and make running a company more fun! By sharing techniques and ideas we can all benefit. More than that, you guys can reap the rewards by getting tons of cool new stuff that's the very best it can be!
But enough of my gibbering!
I'm very excited to have this cool crossover miniature out there for all to see and can't wait to progress him to the sculpting stage. It's been really hard keeping it a secret!
Cheers,
James

Update #9 Jul 14 2014
New stretch goals unlocked - Captain Brindie, Dimension Hop Tesla and cheaper add-ons
Yikes, I sure picked a fine day to book some meetings! There I was, expecting a fairly slow Monday, and suddenly a Lifer pledge was snapped up by an amazingly generous backer, along with many other people joining the Kickstarter.
I apologise it's taken me a little while to make this update, I've had a day sorting out other bits and bobs about the campaign. Hopefully the good stuff inside will make up for the wait!
Over 400 backers!
This is so awesome. Five days in and over 400 people of exceptional taste have backed the Kickstarter. I honestly didn't dream that it would happen so fast and I'm extremely proud that you all see something in Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke that has encouraged you to put in for a pledge.
It just makes me more committed than ever to ensure the minis and the game are bloody amazing!
It also means that the 400 backer stretch goal is down.

This means that anyone who spends at least £150 in total on their pledge amount will get some pretty great discounts on add-on miniatures:
•Regular - £10 (Estimated retail price £14 - £4 saving)
•Large - £12 (Estimated retail price £17 - £5 saving)
•Regular - £14 (Estimated retail price £20 - £6 saving)
Which might come in handy now that a few more stretch goals have fallen for regular sized miniatures too:
Captain Brindie has landed! This is the first 'Kickstarter Special' miniature in the campaign.
"What's a Kickstarter Special?" I hear you ask. Well, let me show you with this handy infographic!
So, Captain Brindie will be available in a few other ways once this Kickstarter is over, but, still quite tricky to get hold of as I don't currently go to an awful lot of shows.
(check further up for the image)
I'm glad that feedback has been great on him so far and particularly glad that most people have been shocked by the idea of building him without the clockwork monkey!
The pace of backers today was so great that I didn't even have a chance to tease this stretch goal properly before it arrived!
Dimension Hop Tesla is a character who came about through a desire to bring some slightly more unusual elements into the world of Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke without taking the carefully built background to a really insane place!
That this alternate, female version of Tesla has come from another dimension acts as a facilitator and device for the justification of other such oddities (which I felt were too cool not to do) also being a feature of future parts of this campaign. But, by having her as a dimension hopping genius with a new-fangled device that can tear rifts in space and time, it actually fits with the world I've established in a fairly feasible way.
Don't worry! She isn't going to usher in a wave of dinosaur riding knights with miniguns... though perhaps that's a Kickstarter I should launch once this one's done!
Her background is actually all worked out and there's a proper fit in the overall plot and story arc of the world.
Also, she's a wicked looking concept by the uber-skilled Silviu Sadoschi, with elements to her equipment and dress from different time-periods and worlds. And, with the incredible Joaquin 'Freeman' Palacios due to start sculpting duty on her, she's bound to look every bit as good as a finished model!
As with Captain Brindie, Dimension Hop Tesla is a Kickstarter Special miniature.
More stretch goals to come!
Don't worry chaps and chapesses, I have some pretty funky stuff to come in the next stretch goals. I'm particularly excited about the £38k one, it's truly epic!
Once £36k is hit I can get my background writer, Dave Allen, to put down some more background information to really bulk out the history of London even further. I'll also be able to add some new colour illustrations to Silviu's list of things to do!
This is one that I know some people have been waiting for. You can see concept art for the Suppressor on the Infamy website and it's caused some folks to get a little bit excited, what with it being a titanic, walking, steampunk, tank-type-thing of destruction and death!
Well, I've been a little bit cheeky with the Suppressor. Despite showing a work in progress shot or two recently, the sculpt has actually been finished for a while now!
I'll let you take a better look if the £36k stretch goal gets hit!
What else?
I'm going to film a video update later tonight or tomorrow. I need stuff to talk about! Please add your burning questions to the comments in this update and I'll do my best to answer them in the recording.
I'll announce the next backer total stretch goal in another update soon, and, of course, details about any other stretch goals that might tumble!
Thanks for making it another crazy day guys.
Cheers,
James
and finally in this flood of updates
Update #10 Jul 15 2014
Bigger background and the Suppressor is coming!
Yay! Another stretch goal has been surpassed. I was just about to sort out my evening meal, but, if there's any good reason to go hungry for a bit longer, this is it. I've been excited about this reveal for a while now!
Before I get all giddy about what's to come, I'd best talk about what you fine backers just unlocked:
The free PDF Background book is going to get more pages. Hurrah! What does this mean for you?
Pretty as a picture
I've already fired an email to my awesome artist, Silviu Sadosci, with descriptions for two new colour illustrations. These will be big, complex pieces - like the existing images of Tesla sitting on a ruined Nelson's Column, or Uncle John bursting forth from London Zoo with his animal circus.
What will they be of? Well, fans of some of the models I released before this campaign began will probably be happy. That's all I'll say for now, but, I think it will be cool to make backers a part of the development process for the art, so once I get an update from Silviu (which shouldn't take too long as he is spookily fast) I'll share his preliminary sketches with you in a backer exclusive update!
Storytime
There will also be more words, which is rather fortunate! Dave Allen, who has written loads of brilliant background and stories for Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke has clearly been watching the upcoming stretch goals.
He pre-emptively sent me a 3,000+ word short story that we have never discussed! I'm guessing he will want some pennies for it. Cheers for that Dave!

I am actually very happy though, it is one of the most enjoyable reads yet and brings in various characters for the first time. Perhaps I'll get some art done to accompany the new story too.
So... yeah... I got a bit carried away with this one! From the first time I mentioned the Suppressor to some friends behind the scenes, there's been nothing but excitement for it. Somehow, all that enthusiasm led to... well... I guess I'll just show you some pictures of this beast!
It's pretty large! In fact, if you were to come to Nottingham and head to a place just down the road from Infamy Miniatures. Goes by the name of... what is it? James Workshop? Something like that! Well, they've got these things in their range called... Fearnought? I think that's it. They make some resin ones. They are rather full of contempt. Is this subtle enough for everyone?
Well, the Suppressor is pretty much the same size height. So quite a hefty kit. Quite a lot of parts too actually. I'll show them if the stretch goal gets broken.
"Aren't you a little tall for a skirmish game?"
Yeah, it is big isn't it? But, have no fear, I've worked out some funky ways for it to fit into games of Infamy: Welcome to The Big Smoke in both competitive and story driven games. I'll say more if it gets unlocked rather than go into too much detail here!
Hopefully you like the look of it. I'm getting 3D prints made in the next few weeks, so you should get to see a physical model before the campaign is done. I will then have to try and restrain myself from painting the 3D print!
Because it's so big, the Suppressor won't even fit the X-large miniature section. He is an add-on only model (though I'm considering adding a Massacre+ type pledge) and with an estimated retail price of £45 I'm going to take that down to £40 for the Kickstarter.
Alrighty, time for me to go and get some food I think! I'd love to hear what you make of the Suppressor.
Cheers,
James
