I agree with every other fast food place being better than McD's and I actively try to avoid it, except their coffees. However, Popeye's is infinitely better than KFC. That gak's gross.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yes. I suspect a lot of the time I get McDonalds, I should probably just get the fries and I'd be just as happy, happier probably.

I just had Popeye's this month for the first time.It IS amazing. KFC, on the other hand, is OK at best, and uniquely among fast food, I cannot eat KFC if I have to be somewhere (like work) in the next 24 hours. I have found KFC is rarely worth the gastrointestinal distress it inevitable causes.

My experience must have been anomalous then. I had Popeye's last month for the first time and it was simply atrocious. Easily one of the worst fast food experiences I've ever had. I always hear that it's so great, so I might give it another shot some day.

I love McD's though. I eat there once a week, minimum. Since I've been in the process of renovating/moving it's gone up to 5-7 times a week. The quality-to-cost ratio is the best I can think of out of most restaurants, and is absolutely the best out of any franchise restaurant I can think of.

Like all fast food chains, some places are incredible for it, some places are terrible for it.

Like the Popeyes here is glorious, but so is the KFC, but Hardee's is terrible.

A scone is certainly closer than your guys' "biscuits"!

Here is a basic recipe if you want to make your own American biscuits.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/southern-biscuits-recipe.html
Ingredients
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons shortening
1 cup buttermilk, chilled

Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Using your fingertips, rub butter and shortening into dry ingredients until mixture looks like crumbs. (The faster the better, you don't want the fats to melt.) Make a well in the center and pour in the chilled buttermilk. Stir just until the dough comes together. The dough will be very sticky.

Turn dough onto floured surface, dust top with flour and gently fold dough over on itself 5 or 6 times. Press into a 1-inch thick round. Cut out biscuits with a 2-inch cutter, being sure to push straight down through the dough. Place biscuits on baking sheet so that they just touch. Reform scrap dough, working it as little as possible and continue cutting. (Biscuits from the second pass will not be quite as light as those from the first, but hey, that's life.)

Bake until biscuits are tall and light gold on top, 15 to 20 minutes.

Per biscuit: Calories: 121 ;Total Fat: 4.5 grams; Saturated Fat: 2 grams; Protein: 3 grams; Total carbohydrates: 17 grams; Sugar: 1 gram; Fiber: 0.5 gram; Cholesterol: 6 milligrams; Sodium: 331 milligrams

The latter two sound better than a sausage biscuit with grape jelly.

Personally I am partial to their double cheeseburgers and Egg McMuffins.

As Dark Traveler said, what we call biscuits, you probably call scones. Similar, anyway.

I make this at home some Saturdays. Fresh Biscuits, bacon, eggs, and cheese. Perhaps some butter.

I've always found Popeyes to be really hit and miss. Sometimes its just plain terrible other times its really quite good. Some places just seem to have 0 consistency in them, like Applebees is another I can think of. I've been to really good Applesbees and I've been to really bad Applesbees.

Denny's. It's why there always two, so that you can be like "nah, lets drive two minutes more and go to the good (relatively speaking) one."

It's indeed savory, biscuits in America are golden brown on the outside with that slight hint of crunch with a buttery flaky texture on the inside. Put a little butter and your favorite jam, jelly (US jelly), marmalade, honey, etc... and you'll understand why we're obese over here . Or as we have deduced from this thread, eggs, bacon and cheese fit quite nicely within the confines of biscuit halves.

This however, is quite sweet and basically has the same things on it. The 'buns' are like mini pancakes, with pockets of syrup basically baked into them.

They're amazingly delicious, but I haven't had one in years since I started noticing that my heart appears to stop for a few seconds about 6-12 hours after eating one.

Also, having worked at a mcdonald's for about two weeks when I was younger, I can say that whatever that stuff is that's on it isn't egg. It looks like egg, but it comes from a carton and you pour it into a long rectangular mold on the grill before folding it into that nice neat egg shape. I never quite got the hang of that part.

That cheese isn't really cheese either. Cheese gets moldy eventually.

The bacon could fool me though. I think it's reasonably real. Never seen anywhere that could fake bacon.

Nice. I'll have to try to make them sometime. The recipe above shares a lot of ingredients with scones, but the baking soda and baking powder probably makes them a bit different

There is such a thing as "Liquid Egg".

I actually use it rather then eggs unless I specifically need the whole egg for something.

Oh dear sweet holy jesus, that pancake atrocity... *hurk*

I get bacon on pancakes with syrup, salt & sweet are a good combination, but introducing dairy products into that combo is complete lunacy that I can only imagine people enjoy because all fast food is essentially just a delivery system for a scientifically-determined amount of fat, salt, sugar and additives designed to fire off every reward circuit in the human brain simultaneously.

Syrup and cheese, oh god...*hurk* I'm going to have the boak all day now thinking about that.

Biscuits are basically lighter fluffer non-sweet scones. Both great with fresh butter.
