Lances are great for fast moving, low S, high I models with a single wound (Eldar) that need some AP 3.

Power Lances are best with *ANY* unit that has bonus damage on the charge. Any unit with Furious Charge or Equivalent makes the best use of the Lance because these unis are expected to do there damage on a single turn, and if you cannot win in that turn you shouldn't of charged it.

Those of you saying the Maul or Sword are better, your not thinking of the niche units that will be taking it. On these units the Lance beats the Maul due to AP3 and the Sword due to +1 strength, usually with the added bonus of Furious Charge making it +2 strength. A good example is Harlequins, there Troupe Master is a beast with a power lance usually killing 3 MEQ on his own! And if that isn't enough, he can hit'n'run out and do it again. Tryed it once and never went back.

I had an idea of an expensive Vanguard Vet squad with power lances, but it was mostly because I wanted to model them like Dragoons from Final Fantasy Tactics.

What also helps the Lance is it being the one of many or in a Mixed group where a second Character can take something else like a Power Sword or Mace (Or paired Lighting Claws)
They also good for T3, 4+ Armies.
Just in case your "Champion" does not kill off the MEQ on the Assault. During the second Turn he can take over.

Giving lances to a TWC that also has a Wulfenstone would be pretty epic, if not expensive. *mmm

They'd all be strength 8 AP3 on the charge. lol

I've found lances to be good in an outflanking Scout squad in a Land Speeder storm. More than likely they will get wiped out, but its a great distraction unit or surgical strike unit (can make short work of things like dev squads and guard heavy weapons)

white scars bike command squad. not sure if it's even the most effective use of a power weapon but it's a awesomely fluffy one.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

After the first time you will find it to be a Very good option, though 1 Power Fist, Power Axe or Thunder Hammer is nice to have as a back up.

I did not say they were strictly worse, I was saying that the situations where they are better is a very limited window.

the ONLY situation where they are better is on the charge against armor save 3+ targets. If they are 4+ or worse or 2+, Maul is better on the charge. If they are not on the charge then maul and sword are better.

That is what I have been using, that and the occasional Fantasy one.
For a Bike Command Squad a DA/GK Banner also looks good.
