With the changes to Smash, I've found it much harder as a Daemon player to kill anything other than light vehicles. Be'lakor with the right support has been great for that, as well as using the Shrouding power to give all the other Tzeentch Daemons in range a re-rollable 2+ cover save

Also, let it be known that primarily Be'Lakor is a phenominal support character for getting things like Khorne Hounds and Seekers into CC easily.
I've run Be'Lakor and a retinue of 20 Hounds + 20 Seekers with Heralds effectively Invisible as threats that just cannot be dealt with. If you ignore them, you have to deal with Be'Lakor in CC. If you focus on Be'Lakor, 40 Models are going to make you have, a very bad day. Use him primarily as a high armor piercing threat. I pop LRs with him when I come against them, the send Seekers up against the poor inhabitants.
Of course, this is all situational, (As we all know how finicky the game boards can be, of our own personal use or friends') You need sufficient terrain. I can't stress that enough. I hate seeing 3-4 buildings the size of Bastions on 4x6 tables and the likes. If you dont have LoS blocking Terrain you might as well forfeit every tournament, and friendly game to the masses of Eldar and Tau bandwagoners.

Anybody who says Be'Lakor isn't extremely fragile has never actually used him. You have to play him very conservatively. Sure, he can beat down anybody else in the game, but he shouldn't be assaulting unless it's late in the game and/or he's able to kill them and consolidate behind LoS-blocking terrain. He is pretty much a support character. You are paying 350 points for guaranteed invisibility a lot of times. I find he is really good but not always worth it.
He also happens to be the only halfway good method daemons have for killing Knights.

herpguy has the truth of it there. He kills knights. He's a decnet psyker, so he isn't a terrible use of 350 points if your demon build emphasizes psychic powers, but he is super fragile.
His defenses are fine in a melee with a combat char. He'll beat the heck out of generic tough guy number five. But B'elakor will be massacred by enemy shooting.
Belakor is positively awesome against small eilite armies. He'll kick the teeth out of em. 350 points for like 700 points of effectiveness, its wonderful. But while his good matches are triumphs (this game Be'lakor killed 2 knights and a unit of Terminators), his bad matchups are dreadful (Some barges/wave serpents/lootas glanced at him and he blew up).
Putting him in a tourney list is generally a good thing though, as he covers well for the Daemon dexes weaknesses. In particular he helps out with an incredibly problematic matchup, Knights. (This DOOM unit has a rerollable 2+ save and they are invisible and full of characters and- LOL, 6 on my stomp, pick em up).

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

In fairness, he doesn't need to fly. He can just cast invisibility on himself and have the same durability against str D blasts. Although it's true - it would take some seriously bad positioning for Be'lakor to pull off those same shenanigans in 7th without puppet master. IIRC, one of the titan's D blasts even scattered back onto itself! That was quite a report to read in any case

Even with Invisibility, Be'lakor can get instakilled by stomp attacks if the IK rolls a 6.

i use him quite alot, every demon/csm list. i run a pretty heavy assault list, using 2x thirsters, 2x grinders, 20 hounds, and belakor. i think you have to saturate the field with fast offensive threats. gives him alot of units to support, and draws alot of attention away from him. its worked very well for me.

Yup...
Belakor can kill aknight, but you'd want to weakne it first to make sure it didn't get to swing.
Next challenge is Belakor and skarbrand in the same list... loving that armourbane.
