You should always buy a new edition. Unless you wanted to play outdated game systems.

This is sort of the reason I made the thread :p

Yeah, don't listen to this guy. There seems to be this weird attitude these days that previous version of games become "outdated", and an anathema to play. Newer is not always better, and there's something to be said for not switching systems constantly and sticking with what you know (I know at least one group of D&D players who never left 3.5).

Pffft... AD&D before 2nd Ed was epic Who remembers Unearthed Arcana?

The only problem with staying with old rules in 40k is that you need to mess with units a bunch if you want to use new units... and there is an endless flow of those.

I would say at least try a few games. I'm sure that someone would loan you the rules long enough to try it out. Or you guys can pool together and get one of the new sets that has the book. Even if you all dont need the models, you could paint them up as NPCs in your own custom missions and the cultists from DV make a great necromunda gang.
of course, the extra models could also go towards a new player joining the group or a family member who is interested in playing ect.
7th (and 6th) edition allows you to do allies and get a wider variety of your armyies into each game. Not that you couldntbefore by using double FOC or house rules of course.

But if you ONLY play each other and never any outsiders or anything like that, you could easily get away with using whatever edition you want.

So I'd say give it a whirl, cant hurt to try it out.

If you have a group of friends you play with, you can play any edition you want and you won't have to pay the absurdly high price for rules every two years.

If you play at FLGS, then it's a different story. You'll have to update. Whether that's worth it for you, that's a question only you can answer.
For me, it was 'no.' For others it was 'yes." Is it worth it for you?

Totally up to you. I think 6th and 7th are close enough, that the jump shouldn't be super hard. Plus the new Psychic phase is fun and vehicles got stronger.
