When I was knee high to a grasshopper, I used to spend a few weeks of the Summer with my Nan in Norwich. She wanted a boardgame to play with me so we ended up in this fantastic shop in Elm Hill. I have no idea if it is still there as I have not been into the city in years. I fondly remember his shop full of miniatures and resin terrain. I got my Nan to buy me some squats. We got a board game aswell but I cannot remember what it was. Some small card game thing.
From those early days I spread into 40k and I got Rogue Trader that Christmas. I poured through that book and I loved the JB artwork.
I never really played though. I just loved the building, converting and painting. It did not help that we lived in the Sussex countryside and the other kids around me had no interest in playing wargames. We did spend alot of time building treehouses with pallets though so I did have a great childhood.
Fell out of the hobby around 1995 when I went out to work, bought cars (1968 Beetle!) and went to pubs and clubs.
met my wife in 1998 and our first son arrived in 2003. My Wife and I had a bit of a WoW addiction for a few years but that vice is long gone. tried Guild Wars 2 a few months ago but the hold that MMO's once had has gone.
I think it was Rock Paper Shotgun that did a piece on the re-release of Spacehulk. One impulse buy later and I am back painting. I had a great few weeks assembling and painting and I was hooked again. My second impluse buy of Dreadfleet was not as good but those ships are still wonderful to paint.
My eldest son is now old enough to play Space Hulk with me and we also now play Deadzone and Firestorm Armada. Planet fall is up next. Its looking very promising.
I still love GW mini's and I am replacing the mantic restic with a GW force of Space Marines and Orks.
I am 37 now and I find painting a great way to have a little me time of an evening. I get monday nights all to myself and I sit at a desk with a nice cider and I paint a few Mini's whilst watching a series on my mac. Currently watching Big Bang series 6.
