A Screamer -killer is vanilla Carnifex (two sets of Scything) and Bio-plasma, I think that runs 140...it is a very "old school" build...way back in the mists of time, this was "the" build for Carnifexen. I'd then toss Adrenals on top for 155.

OK, yeah my buddies (small) Nid army I've been playing with so far has one Carnifex kitted out as such (although I never played it with Bio-Plasma). He goes back to 2nd edition. The thing is a beast when it hits, but I've always wished it had some shooties to disperse along the way, which is why in my OP I had the bio-cannons listed.

Do let me know how this works out for you. Those detachments are attractive, but I'm just curious if the Warrior tax is worth the bonuses.

Yeah, the one feature of Bio-plasma is it adds a "shot" without costing an attack in CC. For me the "secret" is giving the Warriors a job to do, that way they avoid being a points drain. Though, often the "job" is "Snipe with a Strangle-Cannon".

I'm a terrible person to talk to on the situation of one or the other, since I have...12? and Old One Eye. So I know I have quite a few spread out with different loadouts. Now, that being said, I do have 3 set up in the classic Screamer-Killer formation and I have to say they are one of my greatest investments. I run them individually though. Granted, I am a little paranoid about them eating each other, but I look at it in another view. Run point assessments. You are using this for vehicle hunting. So, running a Carnifex at a Land Raider is a bad idea. Running a Carnifex at a Land Raider with something around 30 Hormagaunts to screen it is a good idea. Running 2 Carnifexes at any vehicle is excessive. Unless it happens to a tank that just happens to cost about the same as a Baneblade or close to it. In which case, run as many as it takes to equal or slightly "over-point-cost" it. Also, ALWAYS make sure you get the charge. I have never had one of my Carnifexes assaulted, but I can promise you that it will not be pleasant if you can't get the charge. Overkill is underrated.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Good advice, though the Formations help, with their "Warrior Tax", Synapse fixes any problems with the "munchies" Just provide a Screen (I like to use Hormagaunts) and it is all good. (Better with Shrouding as well)

After thinking this over, since I don't want to end up spending a fortune on Carnifexes in case I'm not happy with the builds over time, I'm going to go down the magnetization route.

I think the magnets I have are well too large (.250" diameter by .100" thick, there is no M-x listing on the packaging).

Would anyone be willing to tell me what size magnets they recommend for this project?

Here are the 2 that got me started on the best way to magnetize the big beasties:
