in our meta the one I struggle against the most is Realspace Raiders with a Dark Artisan.
Venom with Incubi/2++Archon, 3x Splinter Rack Raiders with too much poison, Voidraven, Razorwing, 3x3 Reaver bikes, Scourges with one of every special weapon, and a Talos/Chronos that don't scatter, so without fail pinpoint insert and feth gak up.
I used to dislike the default Iyanden list, till the above came along.
And as to the Culexus, you could easily convert one, as they don't have any weird weapons, you just need a suitable stupid head lol

And about chaos vs tau, Litterally take 2-3 daemon princes with full telepathy rolls. (Belakor is god here) That will just tromp all over those silly fish... works every time.
Flying Monstrous Creature lists (slannesh in particular) are literally the least fun lists to play against and I literally hate them.
I had to fight one at top table last night and I just sigh'd and felt like saying "lets just not play, go have a Pepsi and watch the other games". Really. It is the biggest "F you" army out there that I can think of.
So it doesnt surprise me. the entire army is hit on 6's, if lucky, re-rolls this and that, fires off like 4D6 high STR and ap4 shots per dude if you want, Psychic screams you if LD is low and so on. It's really really an unpleasant army to even deploy against. Most of the players who use the army get quite arrogant and act like the game is a formality. Every now and again they get too cocky and lose, or dice screw them but the dice pretty much HAVE to screw them in order to beat them so. Meh.
Don't play that army if you like having friends. But if you like winning: play that army. Like, yesterday.
Maybe this is true in a Highlander format, but I've played a lot of different daemons lists (2++ rerollable shenanigans, tons of Hounds + Herald 6" from your lines on turn 1, FMC spam, and combinations thereof) against my buddy's Tau and we frequently give each other problems. Tau are one of the few armies that have enough quality skyfire options to really scare a Flying Circus. Even in a highlander format tau could (and probably should since they are all good units) bring an HBC/ECPA/VT Riptide, 3 broadsides with HYMP and EWO, and a Skyray. All three of those units are scary to a multitude of ground and flying targets alike.
That being said, your opponent doesn't sound like a particularly sporting opponent, and I admonish him for giving Daemon's a bad name!
