One of my White Dwarves has the original Battle for Terra story in it!! Such a good read, even though some of the attending legions were retconned out (it had the Death Guard present for example).

These magazines are just the best, I am going to try and track down more.

Off the top of my head it was #268, but I will have to confirm for you tonight.

PPS. Just realized I had the copy in my car, confirmed #268, article was called "Assault on Holy Terra".

Since when were the Death Guard not present?

They were delayed but still made it as far as I know.. (they were there in the original Horus Heresy boardgame, and again in the FFG release)

I am pretty sure the Death Guard were in the warp turning in to Plague Marines at the time of the Battle for Terra, in its most current form. Read battle of terra page on the wiki. It says Death Guard were in the lead up, but nothing about them being on Terra itself. I remember reading it somewhere they didn't make it.
