I will also give a +1 to X-wing.

It is a fantastic game that is easy to learn but still has tons of depth. You want to have a fun beer & pretzels game? X-wing is perfect for that. You want to min/max your squadron lists for competitiveness? X-wing can do that too.

I've taught my wife, my 12-year old nephew, and non-gaming friends to play and they all picked it up easily and enjoyed (even my wife, who doesn't like Star Wars and doesn't play tabletop games enjoyed it).

Wife and I have just started up Star Trek Attack Wing. Tons of fun. Totally in love with how easy it is to play.

Personal advice on it, leave out the Borg. Also, if like me, you're a wee bit obsessive compulsive, work out the scale you want to stick with and start sourcing models from Shapeways and the various ranges (furuta, eaglemoss etc) to replace some of the more awkwardly scaled ships.

And you can repaint the lot.

Really happy with how comfortable it is to learn and run.

Question on that - what scale do think best fits Attack Wing? Personally, I'm a bit bummed that the Enterprise-E seems so small, but I don't want to be playing with an original Enterprise in the size they put out (I tossed out the mini that came with mine and used one of my micro machine ones). Do you think the Romulan Scimitar should have been a Large ship?

It never ends well

May I ask why you say that? Because they are one of my favorite Star Trek powers, and if I decided to start playing the game that's the faction I'd pick (them or Hydrans, which I serious;y doubt are actually in the game). If they are annoying to fight in some way I'd like to know.

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

X-Wing if you want fighter-scale, for anything bigger you should go with Firestorm Armada.
It is the biggest fleet-level space wargame around and it has a good ruleset and by far the best miniatures of any space game.
Spartan Games has also released a new ground warfare game to go with it, so now you can have epic galactic campaigns if you feel like it.

Nah, not really. One of the guys at Hawk just said he was working on rules. It is probably still a few years away. Also, I thought they called it Dropfleet?
They really should pick a nicer name.

Interesting. What Dave said previously on various interviews made it sound as though it was much closer than that. Still about a year off, but not years. Only time will tell I suppose.

Dropfleet was the tentative name (that was openly stated to be tentative) given in a single announcement. Fans have taken off with it since, but it will likely be changed.

That out of the way. My suggestion is either Star Wars: Armada or Firestorm: Armada. I just started Firestorm Armada and it is a lot of fun, but it does have an issue with distribution (if you are in the U.S.) and the exploding 6 mechanic can be divisive amongst the player-base. The Star Wars fleet game is new and I have not played it yet, but I have heard that it is good.

I have seen mixed reviews in regards to Star Trek, but it always has a following wherever I go.

+1 for this. I enjoy the hell outta this game

winterdyne wrote:X-Wing. Some great scope for conversion, up-detailing and painting (they paint really, really well!). My friend is up-detailing a YT-2400 and it'll be mind-blowing when it's done.

And it's pre-painted so you can play straight away and only redo what you want, when you want.

And it's probably the most fun game I've started up in a long, long time.

+1 aslo. I've only started playing this in the last 6ish months, but it's quick and tense and so many fights come down to the last turn, last roll

I haven't played this yet but i've heard really god things about it and i am planning to give it a try, hopefully ove the summer.

I too have heard it is a great game. From what I understand, FT is more of a "traditional" space combat game, and by that I mean that it is set in a generic sci-fi universe and can be played with generic sci-fi models (this allows players to put together one fleet and play it across multiple systems).

Full Thrust is the best space game ive ever played. I mostly play FSA now As it is a good simple snd fast spaxe game
