I hear ya too man, And I''m hoping that after 10 space marines, maybe, juuuuust maybe, they start to look like an adult painted them, and not my 3 year old daughter lol.

As for the aspect of it all, I'm in it for both! I love art, but I suuuuck at it, and I love WH40K! Love the books, love the video games, love the idea of it all, hate the over-priced everything that GW has to offer. Haha, but what do ya do? Settle for something lesser? NO! And atleast you have a GW store, hell, a hobby store in general haha. We've got nothing but bars here in this town. Every soul in Wyoming, Works, drinks, and finally just dies. There are no hobbyist in this state I think, working is their hobby, lol.

I was hoping my miniatures would be here too by now, as I have until the 1st off. But so far I've done nothing but research, research, research. I actually found an awesome tutorial for Soul Drinkers >.>

I'm ditching the IF dream, as they'll all end up looking like old mustard.

how do you like your eldar? I need to open up my mind and do some research on the xenos side lol. Heresy? nah, knowing your enemy!

I understand completely what you mean.
I've stopped drinking/doing/drugs and watching TV couple years ago and it honestly seems to me now that the society is truly shackled into its worker class existence mentality. I do a lot of boxing and training aside from work, GF''s come and go, and cant train everyday. So back to warhammer it is.

The painting aspect is hard to get to grips with at first if you have never done it before(I sculpture painted before i got into WH). Especialy when you look at some of the "pro" work and compare it to your own.

I'd suggest looking up dry brushing and some tutorials for beginners if you got no store near by where they can show you. I don't so much see it as art (I'm crap at art) But more like a puzzle/surgical procedure: where to I put on paint next to get the effect I want?

Well I got a box of guardians and a squad of howling banshees finally through the post
Guardian torso and legs glued to bases and banshees assembled.

To be honest I forgot how long this process takes... I was hoping to get stuck into painting today. It took me nearly 2 days...(granted I was watching movies as well)

By the time I was satisfied everything was glued and cleaned up it was dark so no priming/spraying :(
It's windy and rainy as feth here so need to clean the shed out some at weekend to make a mini spray station | think

Here is where I got so far(1.5 days effort..damn marvel movies distracting me with their awesome fight scenes...)

Okay, looks like you settled on "SoulDrinkers" so that at least is good.
Their founding chapter was from the "Imperial Fists" so you do have yellow in your blood.
You would also be able to use the special rule for fists of "bolter drill", at least it is easily justified.

I read all the Black Library books on these guys but the Lexicanum has a nice summary on them:

For painting you will need to decide on a bright or dark purple.
Where white prime and black prime decides nicely.
I tend to lean toward the dark purple like this:

Remember that yellow is a complimentary colour to purple so you could go that route rather than gold.
I would suggest going to a dark purple you like, use a dark blue wash for the crevasses, and "edging" with a "red-purple".

Anyway, you sound like you are well on your way.

Good luck!
