I was talking about what Sir Arun said about they should be weaker. If you want to keep them on point scale with a rhino it has to be 12/12/12 all around, otherwise rhinos would be underpriced.

Heh, remember the time when a Rhino was 50 points and there was no turn 1 drop pod assault? Those were the days

Man what? All the rhinos I ever saw were 58 points

Armor wouldn't help with that, in fact, you'd want a flexible, light structure for that, something that would absorb impact, not rigid and hard, at least not in the way armor is.

Keep in mind how marines use all technology. They want something durable that can hit the ground 100 times without needing major repair, so one that crinkles like an aluminum can when it lands is useless. They're not that worried about how much some marines in power armor get jarred around.

Plus, the Drop Pod doesn't need to do as much to protect the marines inside. It doesn't need to give a soft landing like a reentry pod for regular humans would. the fluff for pods says that normal humans would be killed by the landing impact. Marines can survive the impact due to enhanced physique, their armor, and the special harnesses the pod is equipped with. They can survive a 100 km impact, thus the pod is built to do just that. And thus it needs to be sturdy.

There is only a need to absorb the impact to the level where the passengers will survive. When they can survive a faster impact, they'll not need nearly as much padding.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

On moon miranda.

Well, it's more that a rigid, heavily armored pod would, realistically, simply obliterate itself on impact. Armor plating deflects localized pressure well, but when the whole frame is stressed, typically doesn't react well, the added weight simply increases the stress of the G-forces acting on it.

There's a reason that air forces prefer small pilots besides simple space considerations. Big, heavily built pilots suffer more under high G's than smaller, lighter pilots.

In all reality, the increased weight of the Space Marine would actually probably work against him in a situation like that. But this is 40k where nothing really makes sense

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

The only time i ever bother to go after a drop pod is if it has deathwind launchers on it, if i feel i can safely multicharge whatever came out the drop pod AND the pod itself, or if the unit near the pod is already so far out of the battle they're not going to be much use for the rest of the game/ is whittled down to just a nob and a handful of boys.

Generally i won't go out of my way to go after them unless its turn 4-5 in an eternal war mission. I regard them more or less as targets of opportunity.

Now those new fancy 'nid pods on the other hand, i'd probably just avoid them unless i REALLY need to go through it for some reason. They're still monstrous creatures, and will hurt alot of things.

depends on the situation, if it's an objective game and they are out of the way and not bothering me, nah, if it is a kill point game, than they must go.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
