I recall in a presentation Paul Thomas gave about the new site being located in Memphis primarily because it's the distribution hub of North America.

Close. Its a hub for FedEx.

Memphis is the shipping distribution center for North America. DHL and UPS also have large shipping facilities there.

False. As a former UPS employee, their hub for this section of the nation is in Louisville KY and not Memphis. DHL also has it's hub at the Cincinnati airport.

FedEx has it's headquarters in Memphis. We drilled for several new offices for them several years ago. DHL Express ships out from Memphis as well as Cincinnati(and the other hubs) depending on destination.

Also has a railway hub, port for the Mississippi barge traffic, and I-40 funnels traffic on the East-West coasts.

I didn't say the UPS hub was there, only that they had large (535,000 sq ft) shipping facility there.

Memphis is the shipping center for North America; Memphis International Airport was named the world's largest cargo airport by volume for 18 consecutive years until 2013 when Hong Kong surpassed it for 1st place.

Why would they move to the US when they obviously got a better deal going in the UK? They aren't losing money because of where thier HQ is, they are losing money because they don't give a rats ass about thier customers.

And I said hub. Several cities have distribution centers, it doesn't make them more important than any other city. Only a few cities have a distribution hub.

AFAIK they still own it and use it for shipping.

Which still makes it not a production facility, n'est pas?

I was aware they'd still got the real estate, but they now longer use it for manufacturing and apparently, IIRC, they cleared all the moulds and equipment out, so they were really keen to not resume.

Not sure even Hasbro has interest in them anymore at this point. You never know though.

I don't really see why they'd move their HQ or even move production. 60% of their sales are in the UK and Europe, only 30% is in North America.

Most their customers are in Europe. The company is run by people from the UK. (According to a previous post) corporate taxes are worse in the US than in the UK.

If the only reason you want them to move is because you think it'd make them cheaper, it's worth noting there are other wargames based in the UK that are massively cheaper. The Perry Brothers are in the UK selling quality 28mm models for less than $1 per model and Warlord Games is in the UK as well... both companies run by ex-GW guys and sell models a crapload cheaper than GW.

Memphis is big for shipping and such- highway, rail, airport, and river. Some numbers can be found here: http://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/freight_analysis/freight_story/major.htm

One source told me they trashed the molds but kept the equipment and planned on selling it. When I talked to another source about trying to buy some of the moldmaking/casting equipment from them he said they had gotten rid of them as well but the molds were still there, just wrapped up on pallets and in stored in the racks.

Which sucks because Nicem equipment is great stuff. We didn't have a single minute of downtime in 5 years due to equipment malfunction. Compare that with the Tekcast machines we had in Baltimore breaking down every other day.

Lol, it's Schrödinger's production plant - they simultaneously have all the moulds and equipment and none of it.

Welp, as long as nobody opens the door...
