Thanks guys!

Managed to finish another Boy last night, so that's 14 out of 15 Boyz done!

Did some edge highlighting on the red armour panels and the blue shirt, it's not too visible in the pics though

Also continued working on the Deff Dread, and had some fun with freehanding some checkers:

I'm rather proud of them as they've really turned out well!

As for the rest of the model, I'm thinking of painting its shoulders blue to tie it more to the other models in the warband... thoughts?

Hey everyone, got some more work done on the Deff Dread last night, thought I'd share a few pictures

Had a bit of an epiphany about the colour scheme after figuring out how I wanted his faceplate to look; a skull-like face painted on his helmet is rather fitting for a Deff Dread, isn't it I think I'll call him Deff 'Ead from now on

As for the rest of the colour scheme, I've decided I'm going to paint the armour and mechanical bits in the regular Blood Angels colours (as it was their Dreadnought before the Orks looted it), with all the new parts and armour plates the Orks tacked on painted blue to make them stand out, as you can see here:

I'll also be adding a couple of freehanded Ork glyphs and decorations to break up the large armour panels, and to make it a bit more Orky

I have to admit, big models really aren't my thing. Getting the large armour panels painted decently is a slightly maddening process, and then I'm not even thinking about the onslaught of small details that still await my attentions. I just hope out it turns out well enough in the end!

*Also, apologies for the crappiness of the pics. I'll get some better ones up once my camera's battery is recharged

So I've recently discovered the existence of the so-called "Painmob" formation that comes with the Start Collecting: Orks bundle, and seeing as I now have 95% of all the things that are in said bundle painted and ready to Waaaagh!, I figured I could use it as a way to motivate myself some more. Afterall, if I have everything I need for the formation, I can start actually playing games again!

Thing is, the one thing missing from my current army is the HQ choice that comes with the SC: Orks box, namely the Painboy. Fortunately, Painboyz don't look that radically different than the other Ork Boyz, so I figured I could just convert one of 'em to serve as the resident insane Dok.

Here's what I've come up with:

A huge needle strapped to his gun, a face that looks like it's been re-stitched a few times and a massive cleaver to chop off limbs with - what more does a Dok need? I also added one of those IG flamer tanks to his back, which I'll paint as containing all sorts of icky substances... and he's got a Boss-pole that proudly announces his grim function on the battlefield.

So, what do you guys think? Does the Dok look Dok-ish enough?

I... actually don't know. Help?

Of course he does!

It's looking awesome. I especially like the messed up face, did you convert it or is it the Runtherds head?

Thank you! The face is indeed the Runtherd's, I was going to sculpt a doctor's mask for him, but I think he actually looks more convincing without one

So I've been working on the Painboy a bit, getting some base colours done and trying some new techniques.

Here's how he looks at the moment:

There's still a lot of work to do, but progress is progress

One thing that's been bothering me is his backpack, though. The plan was/is to make it look like he's carrying two big glass containers containing mysterious liquids on his back, but I'm not really happy with how it turned out. I'm going to change the 'glass' portion to a more grey-ish, darker blue, as the light blue is a bit too bright in my opinion, and maybe add some more 'reflection' lines to make it look more like glass. Thoughts?

Nice work, I'm not big on feral Orks seeing as i run Bad Moonz Speed Freaks, but it's still nice to see stuff come together. I especially like the bosses axe.

Nice work on the Painboy. A simple but effective conversion.

Thanks everyone!

In the meantime, I've finished the Painboy, which means the Painmob is one step closer to being finished!

Here's some pictures of the mad, mad Dok:

Mysterious fluids float around in the vials on the Dok's back...

Close-up of some gruesome details

I've also painted a little objective marker for the Orks to fight over:

I found this in a bits bag I got off eBay a while back, and as it was already half-painted, I decided I'd finish it up while I was working on the Dok to get some variety in my painting log. I added the purity seals to make it look more like a little Imperial votive shrine.

Also, I've worked some more on the Deff Dread, progress is slow but we're getting there:

I tried to create a bit of a gradient on the Power klaw through drybrushing, the effect is a little hard to notice, but I think it works well enough

So, it's finally happened: I've actually completed a fully playable army (albeit a small one)

The Painmob is ready to strike at... well, whatever enemy comes their way, their might Deff Dread finally joining their ranks...

Behold!

Deff 'Ead, Deff Dread of the Ruff Ridaz

Once, the Ork now known as Deff 'Ead was a Tankbusta with an insatiable drive to rip and tear his way through armoured units. As the Ruff Ridaz at that point in time had little technology to craft true anti-tank weapons, Deff Ead only had his muscles and his mighty cleavers to cut through the enemy's armour. He was righteously feared by the local PDF, as almost a dozen Chimeras and even a Leman Russ Battle Tank fell victim to the Greenskin's brutal onslaught.

But Deff Ead longed for a greater challenge. His greatest dream was to one day face off against the mighty Dreadnoughts of the Astartes, which he had seen by chance on a propaganda poster during a raid.

And fate gave him exactly what he wished for.

The Blood Angels who had crashlanded on the agri-world came in force to destroy the Orks once and for all, and among them strode a mighty Furioso Dreadnought, its Power claw tearing through the horde without contemptuous ease. Deff Ead bellowed a challenge, and charged into the Dreadnought with a feral howl. In a duel that has since become a legend amongst the Ruff Ridaz, Deff Ead faced off against the Dreadnought, tearing great chunks of the mighty warmachine but eventually losing both his legs and his left arm to the Dreadnought's assault. In a final act of defiance, Deff Ead slammed his only stikkbomb into the Dreadnought sarcophagus, blowing the hero within to shreds.

With his last breath, he climbed into the sarcophagos and waited for death. However, the Ruff Ridaz's Painboy and Mek saw this as a great opportunity, and did their best to hook the mighty Ork up to the ancient machine's systems.

When the Ork regained his senses, he had been reborn into a metallic hide, armed with deadly weapons with which he could continue his great war against armoured vehicles for eternity. Content with his fate, he demanded the local grots to repaint his mask in the shape of a skull, in memory of the Dreadnought pilot he had beaten.

And here's some more pics of the handsome bastard:

Now, with the Deff Dread finished, the Painmob is finally complete. So I naturally had to take a few pics of the entire army together

The complete Painmob

Da Boyz

Da Nobz

Da Painboy, Ammo Runt and Attack Squig

And a random scale comparison I made because I just like how big the Deff Dread looks

So what's next? Well, given that the army is called after its counts-as Bikers, I figure it's best i fI paint those guys first. After that, I'll probably switch over to my Gretchin or the WHFB Orkz

Hope you guys like this army, I had a blast painting them (even if the Deff Dread threatened my sanity on more than one occasion) I know my style isn't perfect, but I feel like I've made some progress, like finally figuring out how to use edge highlighting effectively

Thanks for the kind words, guys

I've been steadily working on my Gretchin, I have about half of the squad finished except for their basing. I'll snag some pics of them once they're done

However, I'm currently distracted from painting them after acquiring a cheap P-51 model airplane, which I've been trying to convert into a Dakkajet ever since.

Here's what it looks like at the moment (and apologies for the crappy pics, my smartphone refuses to cooperate with me):

As you can probably tell from the pictures, most of the converting work consists of adding some crude armour plates with rivets and sprinkling random bits across the model. I did cut open part of the canopy so I could shove an Ork head into the plane to simulate a pilot

I also scratchbuilt two massive cannons for the plane, as I figured that a Dakkajet required some serious dakka

I'm thinking of maybe adding more armour panels, and perhaps some other Ork glyphs or decorative patterns, but I don't want to go too far either... what do you guys think?

Love the fluff, and the Dakkajet. I think you can never go too far with Orks, they're the (fungoid, ape-like) bumblebees of 40K; It shouldn't work but no-one told them that and so it does! Go nuts

Nice work on the Deff Dread, looking. The story behind it.

Dakkajet is looking great so far.
